Written on the 6 April 2017

Welcome to the second e-Learning news article for 2017. In this edition we look at the latest updates to the G-Suite for Education range of apps.

Update #1: Insert videos from Google Drive into Google Slides
Since the end of February, you now have the ability to insert and play your Google Drive videos in Google Slides, in addition to videos from YouTube.

In your slide presentation, select: Insert > Video > My Drive > click on required video.
Once you have added a Drive video to your presentation, you can then choose when to start and end the video, whether the video should autoplay when presenting, and whether it should be muted or play with audio.

Simply right-click on the video and select Video options. See below for an example:

Update #2: Google Sheets changes

Rotated text
The ability to rotate the text in a cell in Google Sheets is now available. Simply go to Format > Text rotation. This is especially useful when you need to fit long header names into thin columns, or when you simply want to fit more text on a single screen. An example is shown below:

Accounting number formats
The ability to more easily read spreadsheets which contain monetary amounts can now be achieved by aligning the currency symbols within them.
Choose: Format > Number > Accounting. An example is shown below:

More border styles
There is now the ability to choose from several new border styles in Google Sheets, including various thicknesses and double borders, which are commonly used in financial statements like balance sheets.
Choose: Toolbar > Borders>- Border styles. See below:
