Catholic Education Week - Primary School Visits (Issue 7 2017)

Written on the 25 May 2017

Week 3 of this term (15-21 May) marked Catholic Education Week where Catholic schools in South Australia celebrated their identity and call to mission in a variety of ways. The main event at Sacred Heart College was of course the Opening and Blessing of the Br McAteer Centre and the Marist Mission March, where we raised thousands of dollars for marginalised communities in India, Fiji and the Philippines.

As well as this, representatives of the 2017 Marist Immersion Team visited a number of Primary Schools on Thursday and Friday of Week 3, including St. Bernadette's, St. Theresa's, Christ the King, St. Anthony's, Our Lady of Grace, Sacred Heart Middle School, St. Mary's Memorial, St. John the Baptist, Stella Maris and School of the Nativity.

The purpose of the visits was to educate the students about social justice and how we can support those in our global community who are deprived of opportunity and basic necessities.

The presentations were very well received and the primary school students enjoyed the opportunity to ask our senior students about their immersion adventure!

As a result, many of the primary schools have committed to supporting the fundraising effort for the 2017 Immersions, which will take place in November/December this year.
