e-Learning News #3 (Issue 10 2017)

Written on the 6 July 2017

Welcome to the third e-Learning news article for 2017. In this edition, we look at more of the latest updates to the G-Suite for Education range of apps.

Update #1: Converting text to all CAPS, all lowercase or Title case in Google Docs
In this latest update, you are able to convert text in the following three ways:

  • lowercase, to make all the letters in your selection lowercase
  • UPPERCASE, to capitalise all the letters in your selection
  • Title Case, to capitalise the first letter of each word in your selection.

To make these changes, go to Format > Capitalisation > select option.

Update #2: Link to cell ranges in Google Sheets
Google Sheets now has the ability to link to other cells within a spreadsheet. This will allow for easier navigation of large and complex sheets.

Select: Insert > Link

Then in the pop up box, select a range of cells to link > Apply

Update #3: Gmail updates
Receive email files of up to 50 MB

You can now receive larger file attachments via Gmail of up to 50 MB. However, the file sending size remains at 25MB.

Improved video file attachments with video streaming
In one of the latest updates to Gmail, there is an improvement for Gmail desktop users to make the previewing of video attachments in Gmail smoother and quicker. Previously, in order to view a video attachment in Gmail, you would need to download it to your computer and open it with a media player. Now, when opening an email with video attachments, you will see a thumbnail of the video and have the ability to stream it right from inside Gmail.
