From the Head of Middle School (Issue 5 2017)

Written on the 6 April 2017

Over the last week or so parents/caregivers should have received two important letters in regards to the Opening and Blessing of the Brother Joseph McAteer Centre/Mission March and the establishment of a formal Parent Group at the Middle School. Below I have included a brief summary of the key points found within each:

Opening/Blessing of the Brother Joseph McAteer Centre/Mission March
Wednesday 17 May, Senior School

  • Students will need to make their own way to the Senior School in the morning and meet by 8.45 am on the Main Oval (Cnr Cudmore Street and Scarborough Street, Somerton Park). Students will be dismissed at 2.45pm from the same location.
  • The Middle School will be closed on this day.
  • Students are to wear their school PE Uniform and bring a small bag to carry water, hat etc...
  • Lunch and recess will be provided for all students.

Establishment of a Parent Group at the Middle School
Rationale/Aims of the group:

  • To ensure that we provide platforms/experiences for parents/caregivers to socialise and build community
  • To support parents and families in all matters of raising children/adolescents in today's world
  • To support, where possible, the teaching and learning at SHCMS
  • Planned events/initiatives
  • Launch the new group with a SHCMS Family Fun Night - Save the date FRIDAY 19 MAY, 5-8pm - ALL WELCOME
  • Establish parent representatives and Facebook page for each year level
  • Year Level Coffee Mornings for Parents (last Friday of every month).

Leanne De Young has kindly agreed to act as chairperson this year. She can be contacted at leannedeyoung@gmail.com.

Early Dismissal
Just a reminder that school finishes at 1.00pm next Thursday 13 April, which is the last day of term.

Have a happy and holy Easter, and enjoy a well-earned break.

Tim Mullin
Head of Middle School
