SHC Factor Semi-finals

After four amazing heats of the SHC Factor competition in Term 2, we now move into the Semi-final stage, which will be held in Week 4 of Term 3. We congratulate all competitors for putting themselves forward to face the always packed, and sometimes rowdy, Debourg Centre auditorium. Each heat was well led by Arts Captain, Alex Cruz, and the special guest judges were always impressed.

The line-up for the Semi-finals:
Semi Final #1: Tuesday 15 August

  • Alex Cruz
  • 8ve (Luke Wormald and Nastassja Beatrice)
  • Abbey Rice
  • Pure Vile (Riley Groundwater, Cameron Lockwood and Callum Milford)

Semi Final #2: Thursday 17 August

  • Louis Martinovic and Nathan Cooper
  • Covered In Chrome (Brodie Challinor, Eirenn Harkness and Lauren Bartholomew)
  • Mr Tim Robinson
  • Sam Harris

Stay tuned for who will make the finals!

Children's Library Session
On Thursday 8 June, SHC hosted a children's Story Time session in collaboration with the State Library. Held in the function centre of the new Br Joseph McAteer Centre, many families and young children came to experience a hands on musical experience.

The SHC Music students led the children in some well-known nursery rhymes as a warm up. Special shout out to College Captain, Luke Wormald, who, on his 18th birthday, did a great rendition of "I'm a Little Tea Pot!"

Seeing the children playing some instruments for the first time and their excitement in making the noise while interacting with our music students was a real joy. This will be something we hope to do every year alongside the library.

Catholic School's Music Festival audition
On Tuesday 27 June, the Catholic Schools Music Festival organisers came to hear some of the Music groups from the Senior campus. This event, which has been a highlight for many South Australian schools over many years has a new look this year with a new venue and a new program, now being held at the Entertainment Centre over two nights as renovations to the Festival Theatre continue.

For the auditions, the Stage Band, Concert Choir and Senior Vocal Ensemble all played some of the repertoire from the year. Plus a special group of Year 12 Ensemble Performance students, Justin Kascak, Chris Manariotis and Joel Taylor, played one of their assessment pieces. Well done to all ensembles and we will wait and see what happens with the Festival, which is held on 19-20 September.

Director of Music
