Helping to make a difference (Issue 7 2017)
Written on the 25 May 2017
As we head into our colder months we are launching a winter appeal with our MSol students at Sacred Heart, along with the support from students at the Middle School. We are committed to supporting local organisations during winter to help make the difference for those who are struggling in our community.
We will be supporting the Adelaide Day Centre by students and staff at the Senior School volunteering their time to make soup every two weeks for them to distribute.
We will also be sleeping in solidarity with the homeless on our streets with the Vinnies Winter Sleepout. The Winter Sleepout allows students to raise awareness to support the work of the St Vincent de Paul Society and, at the same time, collecting much needed blankets, clothing and sleeping bags to support Adelaide's homeless. This year we will be focusing our support on our local Brighton St Vincent de Paul.
In true Marist spirit, the Middle School will also be on a mission to help those less fortunate by taking part in the Saint Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal, starting on Monday 22 May and ending on Friday 9 June. Each year level will be given two boxes to fill with winter clothing (in good condition) and blankets.
Help us to support these two local organisations, and the incredible students who are volunteering their time to make this difference, by donating any spare blankets, quilts, jackets coats, or sleeping bags you might have. Or if you would like to help with the soup making, donations of food would be greatly appreciated.
We thank you for your generosity and support.
