Walk a Mile in My Boots (Issue 14 2017)
Written on the 14 September 2017
Our original Walk a Mile in My Boots was scheduled to immediately follow our Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Mass on 15 August, however this had to be postponed due to the heavy rain. So Thursday 31 August turned out to be a beautiful day and we took the opportunity to complete the walk for the Hutt Street Centre.
Before our walk, we came together as a community including parents, students and staff to pray for those less fortunate. Then CEO of the Hutt Street Centre, Ian Cox, spoke to us about the services and support provided by the Hutt Street Centre, giving us a glimpse into to life of one of his past clients. He thanked us for the support our College provides.
The boys then walked a mile around the perimeter of the Middle School campus behind an official Hutt Street Centre placard. Lunch followed the walk, and staff and students were able to buy a sausage and a can of soft drink, with all proceeds going to the Hutt Street Centre.
Thank you to all families who contributed money, toiletries, socks, underwear, muesli bars or other non-perishable food items. These donations are greatly appreciated. It was wonderful to see the boys participate and enjoy walking together in solidarity, supporting those in our community who really need it.
We regularly visit the Hutt Street Centre so if you ever want to make a contribution, they can be left at the front office of either campus. The Hutt Street Centre has a 'wish list' on their website which is updated regularly with items they currently need most of. This can be found at www.huttstcentre.org.au/get-involved/quality_goods
