CURRICULUM

Sacred Heart College is committed to providing a broad and meaningful curriculum designed to promote a love of learning, educating the whole person, enabling the spiritual, intellectual, cultural, physical and social development of emerging adults.

The key understandings and goals of the Strategic Plan 2009 2015 are:
The continuation and enhancement of our Catholic mission as expressed by the vision statement.
The enhancement of creative and effective learning and personal growth as our core work.
Support for learning process through enhanced human and physical resources.
Recognition of the value of each person and celebration of their individuality.
Inclusivity and success for all as a matter of justice.
Accountability to students, parents, the Marist Brothers and funding agencies for our performance and use of resources.
Staff and student well-being and resilience in an intensive and rapidly changing environment.
Building community amongst students, staff and families, and the building-up of our Tri-Schools community.

The staff and students at Sacred Heart College are committed to realising and achieving these goals whilst maintaining our tradition of academic excellence.  For this purpose a very extensive and comprehensive range of subjects, from each of the eight learning areas, is offered at all year levels.  It is believed this diversity will allow and encourage all students to actualise their potential for personal excellence.

In addition, at Year 10, a 10 week Personal Leadership Program (PLP) is offered.  The New Animated Personal Leadership Program teaches students how to develop Personal Leadership Skills. By becoming self-motivated and learning what increases their self-esteem, students can begin to take personal responsibility for their own lives.

Program components include goal planning, the development of successful habits, communicating using win/win techniques, and the development of a positive mental attitude. By creating a new thinking 'framework' students find purpose, understanding and motivation to succeed at school, home and future employment.

In applying these 'how-to' strategies to all areas of their lives, students become aware of their potential and lead themselves towards a positive and exciting future. The results have been incredible, with many more young people staying on at school, gaining meaningful employment or going on to tertiary education as a result of increased confidence, direction and communication skills.

Contact and ongoing Feedback
Part of the Personal Leadership Program is goal setting.  Facilitators of the program do at times make phone calls after school hours in their capacity of mentors in the goal setting process.

Course credit - Sacred Heart College does not offer course credit and entry into any course is subject to the assessment of the school.  This also applies to on-shore school transfers, either within the state or territory or from interstate.
