Patrick Goodwin 2017 Hearts Sportsman of the Year Award
This year at the Co-Ed Track and Field Championship, he won the 800m and 1500m, achieving a Standard of Excellence in both races. A Standard of Excellence is a result that is in the top 5% of competitors in South Australia. At the Achilles Cup Track and Field event in September Patrick convincingly won the 1500m.
At the School Triathlon Championships at West Lakes this year, Patrick was the winner of the Individual Senior Boys Triathlon event, completing the swim, ride and run. Hours later, he backed up this performance in the Team Triathlon Senior Boys event where he joined forces with Lachlan Merchant (swimmer) and Fletcher Symonds (Cyclist) to complete the final leg of the race, a 4 km run. The team won this event for the second year in a row. As a result of his success on this day, Patrick was selected in the School State Triathlon Team.
Outside of SHC, Patrick holds the title of 2017 State Champion in the following events:
Patrick also came first in the Triathlon SA Junior State Series and most recently won the City-Bay 6km race in a time of 19 min 36 sec. He was the only athlete to run in under 20 minutes.
Patrick has been committed to representing the College in his athletic pursuits whilst also achieving highly at a club and state level. It is for this reason that we were very pleased to announce the Hearts Sportsman of the Year as Patrick Goodwin.
Congratulations Patrick and all the very best for what your bright future holds!
