Boys First XI Soccer (Issue 5 2018) Sport

Written on the 20 September 2018

This review was going to begin by stating that the 2018 season started back in Term 1 Week 6, but the truth is it started about three years ago. The players then and the players now should all feel part of the great success we had this year, only dropping three games all season, going on a seven game winning streak and finishing the season with the College's first ever double -  winning both South Australia's top division league and finals series titles!
Only 11 players can start each game, but led by our leadership group of Nick Harpas (Voted League MVP), Noah Smith and Jayden LoBasso, a total of 23 student athletes, including for the first time two Year 9's (Oscar Gohl and Fergus Lynch) took the field representing Sacred Heart's First XI.

There are so many highlights this season from losing one of our leaders in Joe Gauci to a professional contract with Central Coast Mariners, to the massive growth and fight from each and every Year 10 player. Two of our Year 12's paved the way up front with Nick Harpas scoring 10 goals and Joel Smith slotting 7. Let's not forget our impenetrable back-line who conceded the League's lowest tally of 13 goals all season, led by our Intercol best on ground, Christian Tinnion. Lastly the individual performances of Chris Ashwood drove us to victory on many occasions, winning not only best on ground in the Kilmore win, but also in our TSL Cup final success.

We thank the players, coaches, supporting families who braved the elements to support our boys. We are State Champions! Go Hearts!
