Outstanding Individual Sporting Achievements
Oscar Haese (Year 7), Noah Kelly (Year 9) and Will Scott (Year 11) represented South Australia in the Australian Scooter Association 2017 Nationals Titles in Melbourne at The Bunker Indoor Skate Park over the weekend of 29-30 April. Noah competed in the 16 and under division, representing Pumpt Indoor Skate Park and achieved 38th place. Oscar competed in the 13 and under division and achieved 18th place. Will competed in the Pro's representing Enve Scooters and achieved 11th place. He will represent Australia in the world games in Barcelona in June.
Congratulations to the following students who have been selected in the South Australian School Sport Australia swimming team, with the major competition, The Pacific School Games, taking place in December 2017.
Jonas Garcia (Year 9) and Adam Wurfel (Year 9) were selected last December in the representative Junior League Baseball charter team, the Adelaide Waves. After winning the State Championships in January, the Waves competed on May 21-26 in the Junior League National Championships against 15 other charter teams from all over Australia. The Waves finished with a commendable record of 4 wins and 2 losses and were the winners of the consolation final.
Chris Ashwood (Year 11) - Congratulations to Chris who has been selected to represent the Adelaide United Soccer Club in the Mediterranean Cup in Barcelona in April 2017. Chris is a member of our First XI Soccer team.
Tori Cullen (Year 10) - This June long weekend an annual football event will be held between the South Australian RebelsW and Victorian DevilsW! At the conclusion of this event a medal will be awarded to the coach of the winning team. It has been announced that this medal will be named after SHC student Tori Cullen, a current Year 10 student. Tori Cullen plays for the Deaf Women's football team, RebelsW. We congratulate Tori on receiving this wonderful honour!
Patrick Fordham (Year 12) - Congratulations to Patrick who represented South Australia in the Surf Lifesaving Interstate Carnival held at Maroochydore, Qld in January 2017. Patrick won the beach flags, ran third in the beach sprints, and with a team from Grange Surf Club, won the beach relays. He heads off to the Gold Coast in late March for the Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships where he hopes to hold onto his beach flags gold.
Tait Mackrill (Year 12) - Tait has been selected in the SANFL U18 State Women's team. Tait has also been named Vice Captain of the team. Congratulations Tait!
Staci McCudden (Year 11) - Congratulations to Staci who recently competed at the Track Junior National Championships held at the Dunc Gray Velodrome, Sydney. Staci won Gold in the U17 Women's 3000m Team Pursuit whilst achieving a state record time.
Olivia Moroney (Year 12) - Congratulations to Olivia for her recent involvement on a Rhythmic Gymnastics tour to the USA.
Lachlan Nairn (Year 11) - Lachlan has qualified for the 420 World Sailing Championships in Perth in December of this year and he has been selected to be a part of the Open Australian team. He will represent his state at the pre-worlds and Australian Championships before going on to represent his country at the Worlds. This is a great honour and we congratulate Lachlan on his achievements!
Kayla Shipton (Year 10) - Congratulations to Kayla who travelled to Fiji during the April school holidays as part of the U15 / U17 representative squad for the 2017 CANA (Combined Australian Netball Association) International Tour.
Ella Sibley (Year 10) - Congratulations to Ella who recently competed at the Cycling Junior National Track Championship. Ella participated in the Sprints, Individual Pursuit, Team Pursuit, Scratch Race and 500m Time trial. In the Team Pursuit she won gold and got a state record along with achieving new PB's in her other events.
Lewis Walker (Year 11) - Lewis competed in the Track Junior National Championships held at the Dunc Gray Velodrome, Sydney. Lewis won a bronze medal in the U17 Men's Points Race. He was also part of the men's 3000m Team Pursuit that narrowly missed a bronze medal. Well done Lewis!
Tristan Camilleri (Year 11), Patrick Goodwin (Year 12) and Jack Downey (Year 10) participated in the Track and Field State Championships held in February.
Charlie Ballard (Year 12) and James Rowe (Year 12) - Congratulations to James (SHC First XVIII Captain) and Charlie (SHC First XVIII Deputy Vice Captain) who have been named in the State U18's Squad to take part in the AFL National Championships this year. Both James and Charlie are hopeful of being selected in the Round 1 team to take on Western Australia in Perth on June 10. Good luck to both lads. Furthermore, congratulations are also in order for Jack Fitzgerald and Mathew Tee who have been named in the State U16's Squad to take part in the AFL National Championships this year. Both Jack and Mathew are also hopeful of being selected in their Round 1 team to take on Western Australia in Perth on June 25. We also wish these lads well.
Students who achieve sporting success outside of school at a state championship, national or international event are encouraged to inform the Middle School CEA Coordinator, Mr Adam Rice or the Senior School Sports Department (Ms Ali Trewartha, Mrs Alex Penhall or Mr Robert Gill), in order to be acknowledged in the CEA Newsletter and beyond.
