Cross Country (Issue 3 2016)

Written on the 30 August 2016

On the same day as the district athletic day, the final cross country race was hosted my Mercedes College. Thank you and well done to those athletes who competed in both the athletics and cross country events. You really showed what Sacred Heart boys can do. A very big thanks to the parents who have transported their own and others' sons to and from the races each week. The last race was a relay event where the primary runners raced 4 x 2km and the juniors (Year 8, 9 and 10) ran 4 x 3km. This event is a great way to finish off the season and is always well liked by the runners. We fielded two teams in the primary event and one team in the junior category. The camaraderie and sportsmanship shown by our boys is a testament to them and the Sacred Heart values they believe in. Whilst we haven't received all of the results we do know that the primary teams performed extremely well, placing 1st and 3rd, and our junior team put in a strong effort to produce consistently good times. Plans are already in place for next year and I look forward to working with these runners and new ones next year.

National Cross Country
Cael Mulholland recently returned from representing South Australia at the National Cross Country Championships in Canberra. It was his first time in the state team and he represented his state (and school) with pride. In his individual 3km race Cael placed 20th and helped his team win 3rd place. This is calculated by adding up the scores of the first 4 runners for each state. The second event he competed in was the team's 1500m relay event. Cael was the first runner for South Australia and ran his team into second place with a time of 4.15 for his 1500m. In the end, his team placed fourth but it was a fantastic effort by Cael and the rest of the South Australian team.
