Debating (Issue 3 2016)

Written on the 30 August 2016

Debating:  Round 4
In a closely contested encounter with Kadina High School, our Senior White team of Lili France, Sharlyn Burdon and Max Hill successfully defended the proposition, "The Olympics have run their course". The Adjudicator complimented all our speakers on the quality and organisation of their arguments, especially as this was a short-preparation debate. Charley Hillier and Mariana Couto-Moniz contributed to the preparatory ninety minutes, and Mariana chaired the debate most competently.

All our team members have done the College proud this season with their commitment to practice, performance and presentation in the inter-school competition conducted by Debating SA.  Next, the much anticipated Exchange Debate with Assumption on the topic: "Sport has lost its way".

Our Year 10 Blue team showed the value of persistence and commitment with a strong victory over Marryatville High School. Ryan Klaffer, Austin McClure and Thomas Fritz negated the proposition, "Australia should switch to nuclear power", with all members speaking to full time - a demanding task for a one-card debate. Austin and Thomas produced convincing rebuttal. The growing confidence and skill of the boys was particularly noticeable. Ashley Lleshi was the Timekeeper.
