Senior Football Presentation Evening
On Thursday of Week 10, Term 3, players, coaches, managers, parents and special guests gathered at Glenelg Golf Club to celebrate the 2016 SHC Senior Football season. The evening was extremely well attended with over 100 guests present and everyone enjoyed the opportunity to gather as a group and celebrate the wonderful achievements of our playing group.
Our guest speaker was Ryan Burton, who attended the College from 2012 -2014 and was drafted in the first round to the Hawthorn Football Club in 2015. Since being drafted, Ryan has played four games for the Hawks, including this year's Qualifying Final. It was great to be able to have Ryan in attendance and he spoke exceptionally well, highlighting his pathway towards AFL representation.
There were numerous awards presented on the night across all teams, but none more prestigious than the Colin Morris Trophy awarded to the Best and Fairest player in the First XVIII side. This year the award winner was Xavier Redden, who has played First XVIII football as a Year 11 and Year 12 student. This season, Xavier polled 65 votes, to win by a staggering 21 votes over second place getter Alex Martini. Xavier was an important player throughout the year, polling votes in 12 of the 14 matches a fantastic achievement!
Many thanks to all who helped make this evening the great event that it was. As previously mentioned, it was great to be able to come together and celebrate what was a fantastic 2016 season, which included victory in the Intercol fixture and Kilmore Exchange match for the First XVIII side, as well as taking out the Messenger Shield Trophy and State Wide Knockout Competition.
We wish all outgoing Year 12s all the best with their future endeavours both on and off of the football field in 2017 and beyond.
