The year begins
Welcome to the 2018 school year and a very warm welcome to all our new students and families. The beginning of the school year is a time of great anticipation and excitement. Year 6 students gathered last Tuesday, bubbling with nerves and enthusiasm, as their first day of middle school was finally here. Year 9's gathered with a different energy. There was a quiet, yet spirited confidence that filled the Polding Centre. They were focused and ready to embark on their final year as seniors of Marymount Campus.

As the day unfolded, bells rang, students gathered, new friendships were formed and lockers were carefully organised. It was simply wonderful to meet the girls. Smiles were everywhere and there was an eagerness to connect with teachers, classes and the learning ahead.

On a personal note, I am absolutely delighted to be joining the Sacred Heart, Marymount community. A community with a rich history, long standing traditions and a reputation for excellence. With the Champagnat Project well underway, it's an exciting time in the life of the College. It is certainly a time of promise and purpose. I look to the future with great hope and a determination to make this opportunity special.

To those parents and caregivers joining our community for the first time, I want you to know that your child is in the right place. In just a few short weeks I have come to know a team of highly committed professionals who care deeply. Your daughter will be surrounded by supportive teachers and support staff who understand the unique challenges middle school students face and will gently guide and nurture them as they make new friendships, reconnect, discover a love of learning and grow into confident and courageous young women ready to take on the world.

We also warmly welcome back Sharon Bentley who returns from LSL feeling refreshed and renewed by her New Zealand and Tasmanian adventures. She has many stories to share and we look forward to hearing them.

We began the year with wonderful news. Our 2018 Religious Identity and Mission Coordinator, Belinda Barrile (nee D'Agastino) was married in Italy over the holiday break. Kristin Ward (nee Anderson) also embraces her new surname following her nuptials in November. We wish Belinda and Kristin every blessing as they embark on this exciting new chapter in life.

Year 12 Results
The 2017 Year 12 results were outstanding. Congratulations to past Marymount Scholar Mariana Couto Moniz on receiving Dux of Sacred Heart College for with an impressive Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) of 99.90!

We also acknowledge the many Marymount girls who achieved remarkably well in 2017. Their success is significant.
A few points of interest:

  • 45% of students who achieved an ATAR over 90 completed their middle years at Marymount.
  • 90% of female students who achieved an ATAR over 90 were Marymount girls.
  • 76% of students who undertook university study as part of their Year 12 studies were Marymount girls.
  • 44% of Merit recipients attended Marymount.

We join with the Senior School in congratulating the class of 2017 on their extraordinary achievements.

Families gathered in partnership
On Tuesday families gathered for our annual Parent Welcome and Information evening. Led by our Leaders of Learning & Wellbeing, Sharon Bentley (Year 6), Anna Baronian (Year 7), Connie Trimboli (Year 8) and Shauna Jenkinson (Year 9). The evening was a formal opportunity for families to meet their child's home group and key teachers and hear about the many activities on offer at Marymount Campus. The fellowship and informal chat that followed the formalities was a wonderful way for families to ask questions and get to know their child's teachers. The evening was well-attended highlighting the deep commitment from families. We strongly believe that communication and a shared partnership are instrumental in ensuring a successful learning journey is experienced and I would like to take this opportunity to thank families for their attendance and commitment to their child's education. I hope that families left feeling informed and excited about the journey ahead.

Uniform and Grooming
My thanks to our parents and caregivers for ensuring our girls were well-presented for their first day of school. There were a few exceptions, mostly around jewellery and hats, which will be managed on a case-by-case basis.
