From the Head of Middle School (Issue 10 2017)
Written on the 6 July 2017
What an amazing term it has been! I am truly appreciative of the efforts of staff, students and families who have planned, facilitated, supervised and participated in the many extra curriculum options we provide as Sacred Heart - opportunities that enable our students to flourish in areas outside the classroom.
Looking back over the term, just a couple of examples include our Year 7 and 9 Camps, Opening of the Br McAteer Centre, Music and Arts evenings and the Winter Co-curricular program. Each of these experiences, allows our students to grow and develop in skills that are required to be successful in life, and may include building capacity in resilience, organisation, commitment, confidence and teamwork.
Just a reminder that Week 1 of the next term is our 'Professional Learning Week' for staff (Student-free days: Monday 24 - Friday 28 July). We have put together a very powerful week for both Sacred Heart and Marymount staff as we begin to plan for next year and into 2019, and the opening of the Champagnat Campus. The week covers a wide range of professional development - notably some significant time and resourcing around 'Visible Learning' and 'Positive Education.' I am confident that in this time, we can set the tone for the future direction of the College, enhancing what we know makes a significant difference in the holistic education of the students in our care. The week will also include some 'wellbeing' time for staff so that we can get to know our colleagues better. Early in the new term, I will write a reflection on the week, highlighting the key leanings.
I hope you have a wonderful break and get the opportunity to spend some quality time with your family.
