Welcome to a very busy and productive Term 4.

Sports Day
Another hugely successful Sports Day was held on Thursday last week (20 October) and congratulations to the Joseph team, who once again, took out the shield.

Fittingly, we thought the 100m runners may be up against some strong competition when a kangaroo bounded across the oval in the morning prior to the competition beginning!

I would like to thank the many people who helped with the organisation and facilitation of the day, especially Mr Ashley Jenner and the Be Active Committee who have worked tirelessly for a long period of time. I would also like to acknowledge our wonderful admin, maintenance and grounds team who perform many important tasks that are integral to the smooth running of such a significant event. It was great to see so many parents, grandparents and friends of the school community come along to support the students.

Year 9 Social
Last Friday evening (21 October), the annual Sacred Heart/Marymount Year 9 Social was held. It was a terrific evening and I must admit that our boys looked very sharp. It was wonderful to see such a high level of grooming and personal presentation - fine young men indeed.

It is also a timely reminder that the term, and indeed the year, is concluding at a rapid pace. We intend to acknowledge our Year 9 students in a special way at the end of the conclusion of their time at Sacred Heart Middle. This has typically been a graduation ceremony, however, in reality it marks a change of campus and we are moving the emphasis from graduating to transitioning. In fact, it is a rite of passage and hopefully the event is a time to reflect on their journey thus far and an opportunity to think about the responsibilities they have moving forward.

More details about what this event will look like will be disseminated soon. Links are being made in students' Rite Journey class about moving into Year 10 and therefore moving to the Senior School campus in Somerton Park. Through this class we ask the boys about the things they need to let go of and the things that they need to start doing more of as they enter a new phase of their lives.

Staffing Updates
There will be some significant changes in relation to staffing at the Middle School next year and we are currently interviewing for suitable replacements.

  • Heather Mansfield has accepted a new position at Nazareth College and is looking forward to the challenges
  • of teaching senior Japanese.
  • Vincent Williams is taking a year's leave as he pursues overseas teaching and travelling.
  • Lauren Wagner is taking leave in Terms 2, 3 and 4 and will temporarily be moving to Sydney.
  • Deb Rischin has accepted a position at the Senior School.
  • Both Jen Callanan and Chris Egan are concluding their time at the Middle School and will be pursuing other areas/challenges of their respective fields.

Later in the year, I will formally acknowledge and farewell staff who are permanently leaving our school community.

Summer Sport
Just a reminder that Summer Sport begins this weekend. Let's hope the weather can live up to the expectation!

Congratulations to Year 6 student, William Patton, who has been selected in the State SAPSASA cricket team to play in Canberra 6-13 January 2017. Will was also announced as Co-captain last week. Well done Will and best of luck!

Have a great week.
