From the Head of Middle School (Issue 19 2017)

Written on the 7 December 2017

As we now are at the end of the academic year, I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the MANY achievements of both students and staff, as well as thank them for their fine efforts throughout 2017. There are many facets that make our school and community such a great place, and like any successful team, it relies on all members playing their part and supporting each other. I am truly grateful for the support I personally receive from our wonderful staff and hope they have a well-earned Christmas break, enjoying the company of family and friends.

Staffing news and updates:

  • Deb King has provided 10 years of outstanding service to our Middle School community. In this time she has also performed admirably in several leadership positions, including her current role as Year 9 Leader of Learning and Teaching. Deb has won a position at Prince Alfred College and will be leaving the Middle School at the end of this year. This is an exciting opportunity for her as she will be teaching English to both middle and senior classes. All the best Deb, You will be sorely missed.
  • Siobhan Brophy, our Student Counsellor will also be leaving the Middle School and returning to her home of Brisbane due to family and employment commitments. Although only with us for a short time, Siobhan has certainly left her mark in terms of her professionalism, commitment to the wellbeing of students and her deep understanding of child protection issues. We wish Siobhan all the best and thank her for her contribution to the College.
  • Alice Tonkin will be taking all of next year on maternity leave. Alice is expecting the arrival of their second child in early March - an exciting time for Alice and her family!
  • Tom Cross has secured a more permanent teaching position at Immanuel College and we wish him all the best in his new role.
  • Ashley Jenner will be taking long service leave in Term 1 next year. All the best Ash.
  • Natasha Williams, our Director of Teaching and Learning, will be taking leave for 2018. I wish Natasha all the best in her coming ventures.

As publicised recently, Shana Bennett commences her role as Assistant Principal Champagnat Project next year while I take leave for Term 1.

New staff joining the school in 2017 include: Tom Jordan (currently at Caritas College, Pt Augusta), Jay Pozniak (currently at Cabra College), and Krystle Peyton (currently at Tatachilla College). The new staff members will be formally introduced to parents/caregivers and students at the beginning of the year.

I would like to conclude by thanking the students of Sacred Heart College Middle School - for the most part they are fine examples of young boys living Marcellin's dream and hope that one day too, they will "go out to the villages and hamlets and show others how much God loves them".

Have a spirit filled and safe Christmas!

Tim Mullin
Head of Middle School
