Welcome back to term 2!

ANZAC Assembly
The annual ANZAC Assembly, held on Wednesday 2 May, was exceptional. Special guests included:

  • Mr Bill Denny - a passionate community advocate for war veterans, through his many roles as Director of Veterans SA, Chair of the RSL ANZAC Day Committee, Chair of SA ANZAC Day Commemoration Council and founder of the ANZAC Eve Youth Vigil. He is also the Co-chair of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders War Memorial Foundation Committee and much more besides. Bill Denny was a student of Sacred Heart College from 1958-65.

  • Mr Yandro Ivanovic and his sons, Simon and Nigel. Mr Ivanovic is an old scholar who served in Vietnam. He holds a place of honour on the Sacred Heart Honour Boards in Paringa Hall.

  • Major Don Harvy - Commander of the 431 Army Cadet Unit Sacred Heart College.

  • Mr John O'Grady - RSL Adelaide Sub-Branch Vice President, former Officer of the Australian Army, former National Manager ADF Global Distribution Logistics and SHOC 1968-75.

  • Mr John & Mrs Rosemary Galton

  • Ms Johanna Saffari

  • Mr John Campbell

  • Mrs Margaret Doyle

We had a wonderful display of Sacred Heart students participating in, using military language, 'a Catafalque Party'. Many thanks to the five students from the 431 Army Cadet Unit (Sacred Heart College) who dressed in World War I uniform to form the Catafalque Party.

Parents and Friends Meeting
The Senior School P&F Association met on Wednesday evening in the St Paul's Food & Hospitality Centre. This was a great chance to have a look at this terrific facility and to plan upcoming events. Please contact Ingrid McKay (Chairperson) should you be interested in joining this group - everyone is welcome!

Winter Sport
Winter sport commenced last Saturday. At a recent College Assembly, students were reminded of the importance of sportspersonship and respect. Students were reminded to start and finish each match with a handshake, and to present themselves as a 'good sport' regardless of winning or losing. Students were encouraged to enjoy their sporting pursuits with proper consideration of fairness and good manners. Go Hearts!

Social Justice Initiatives
As the winter months start to set in, students will be given the opportunity to become involved in a range of social justice initiatives. These initiatives help ease the hardships faced by people in our community.

St Vincent de Pauls Winter Sleepout (8 June):  Senior school students will be joining students from Cardijn College at their Winter Sleepout. Students will sleep in solidarity in rough conditions to raise awareness for homelessness in Adelaide. We will provide St Vincent de Paul bins to collect any donations of clothing, blankets, beanies, scarves or gloves. All donations will be gratefully received.

Soup Making - Adelaide Day Centre:  The MSol (Marist Solidarity) group will be making minestrone and pumpkin soup throughout Terms 2 and 3 for the Adelaide Day Centre. Any donations of stock, vegetables or pasta are greatly appreciated.

Mothers Day - Justice for Refugees SA:  We are supporting Refugee Mothers through Justice for Refugees SA. At our Mother's Day Mass we collected donations of non-essential toiletries and chocolates to add to hampers for Refugee Mothers.
