International Day of the Girl Breakfast (Issue 15 2018)
Written on the 25 October 2018
Student Leaders from the Marymount and Senior School Campuses attended the 7th Annual International Day of the Girl Breakfast on Thursday 18 October at the Adelaide Oval. The aim of the event was to raise awareness about issues that girls and women around the world face in relation to accessing education, health, freedom and protection. Guest speakers included Melinda Tankard-Reist, Australian author and advocate for women and girls.
Year 10 House Leader Hana Park provided the following summary of her experience at the breakfast:
"The International Girls Day Breakfast was an eye opening experience and had a lot of inspiring speakers that spoke well about women's rights and the roles that we play within them. Speakers talked about the roles toxic masculinity plays in women's rights as well as how sexism is displayed in both developing and developed countries. All the school students then attended a panel where we had the opportunity to ask questions to people that work within women's rights. The whole morning was inspiring and gave me lots of resources and hope going into the future."
