Meet the Marymount Captains (Issue 3 2018) Sport

Written on the 31 May 2018

Name:
Maya Thompson

Position:
Adamson House Captain

Sports played for Marymount:
Netball, Basketball, Pedal Prix, Touch Football, Indoor Soccer, Volleyball, Cricket, Soccer and Football

Favourite Role Model and why?
My role model is Emma Checker, captain of Adelaide United Women's team. She has inspired me to give soccer a go and to always try my best. She is very determined to reach all of her goals and make every effort count. Emma is a very kind, hardworking person who demonstrates leadership qualities that I hope to replicate during my captaincy at Marymount Campus.

Favourite Sporting team:
Adelaide Crows

Superstitions or pre-game habits:
My right shoe always goes on before my left shoe!

Favourite pre-game feed:
Before any games, I usually eat a small serving of carbohydrates to help provide energy during my games. This usually is pasta or rice. I also try and have enough water to keep me hydrated during games.

Most memorable Marymount sporting memory:
My memorable sporting moments at Marymount are having fun on the field with my teammates. I enjoy being part of a team environment and it is always memorable to have a team that works well together, they support you and makes playing sports fun.

Favourite quote OR what is the best advice you have been given:
"I either win or learn, never lose"

Name:
Sophie Allen

Position:
McEwen House Captain

Sports played for Marymount:
Knockout Netball, Football, Touch Football, Soccer,  Basketball, Volleyball, Cricket and I will also be playing 9 a-side for the school which will be new and a lot of fun!

Favourite Role Model and why?
My favourite role model would probably have to be Stephanie Gilmore because she is such a strong, independent person who is confident in herself and her abilities. She has shown a whole new look to women surfing and has made a massive impact on young girls today.

Superstitions or pre-games habits:
I don't have many superstitions when I play sport although for special events like a grand final I get a little bit nervous but I'm mostly excited and I tend to think about it a lot. Before games I don't talk much except when I get to the actual game and then I get into the zone.

Favourite pre-game feed:
I tend to not to eat a lot, although I do always have a banana to give a burst of energy. I feel like this is a food that will keep me sustained and for me to play at the best of my ability.

Most memorable Marymount sporting memory:
My most memorable Maryount sporting memory would have to be when we won the 6/7 Knockout Footy competition when I was in Year 7. It was really good because we all played really well and had a fun time as well. Mr Mac was a great coach who always pushed us to play our best.

Favourite quote OR what is the best advice you have been given:
'Go hard or go home' - I like this quote because whenever I'm playing any sort of sport I always give all what I've got and never give up. I see no point in playing sport and not do the best you can otherwise you may as well just go home.
