Middle School Sports Update (Issue 3 2018) Sport

Written on the 31 May 2018

Welcome back to the winter season! It has been fantastic to once again see a huge number of our students competing in a range of internal and inter-school competitions over the first four weeks of term. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the parent and Old Scholar coaches for assisting in coaching and manager roles this season. We have seen a larger than ever presence of the Old Scholars returning back to the Middle School this year and I know the students are loving the passion and knowledge that they are passing onto the next generation coming through. Once again, a great strength of the fantastic SHC community!

Year 6/7 Knockout Soccer
On Friday 25 May, 14 boys took part in the first round of the SAPSASA Knockout match at Brighton Primary School. The boys were eager to get the competition off well, after being knocked out in the first round in 2017. The first half was tightly contested, with two quality goals from Cameron McLeod being the difference at half time. The match became free-flowing in the second half, with most Brighton attacks being repelled by central defender Ethan Doak, or goalkeeper Declan Iussa. It wasn't long before the goal scoring continued, with Isaac Wol, George Rameh and Alex Hatcher adding their names to the scoresheet, securing a 5-0 victory. Well done to all players and thank you to the many parents who attended the match.

Year 8/9 Knockout Touch
Oliver Air, Lachlan Davis, Lachlan Durrans, Bailey Giles, Cooper Giles, Daniel Mayer, Grant Murdoch, Austin Quinn and Domenic Vizzari, attended Round 1 of the Secondary Schools Sports SA Knockout Touch Football on Tuesday 22 May. The boys played three games and went into the final for their pool in second place after losing 5-1 to Wirreanda High. They played brilliantly, supporting one another and working as a team to defeat them 2-1, to finish top of their pool. The team are looking forward to competing against teams from other pools during the finals round Thursday 31 May. The way in which the boys conducted themselves throughout the competition is to be commended.
