Open Girls Knock-out Football (Issue 5 2018) Sport
Written on the 20 September 2018
The girls Football Teams season, was short lived with only three games, but enjoyable and fun nonetheless. With a great group of girls representing SHC in a very positive manner, they played each game with amazing spirit and school pride.
After progressing through to Round 2, the girls defeated Cabra and Glenunga in two tough matches on the SHC Main Oval, which then set up an encounter against Tatachilla Lutheran, who were touted as very strong opponent. After dominating much of the first quarter against Tatachilla, SHC couldn't capitalize. With the aid of the breeze, our opponents proceeded to kick four goals to take the game right away from us. Much of the game from half-time onwards was a stalemate and in the end, this quarter proved to be the difference.
The girls couldn't make their 6th State Knock-out Grand Final in a row and they now have a goal for next year - to play on Adelaide Oval! Their effort and application are to be commended and I look forward to seeing high numbers out in 2019. The team this year was well led by Chloe Morgan and consistent performers in the side were: Emma Smith, Tessa Kohn, Heidi Barrett, Renee Roberts, Eirenn Harkness, Mikaela Hayes and Sarah Walkington. Many thanks to all the girls for their involvement - well done!
