Outstanding Individual Achievements (Issue 3 2018) Sport

Sachi Matta (Year 6) and Tysa Miles (Year 7) represented SA at the 2018 Age National Diving Competition held at the Melbourne State Aquatic Centre in April. Competing in the U13 age group 3m springboard Synchro event, Sachi won Gold and Tysa placed 4th with their respective partners. Sachi competed in 1m and 3m springboard and 5m platform events, placing in the top 10 for each event, whilst Tysa competed in the 1m springboard event, improving her competition skills.
Milly Bradley (Year 7) was selected in the U14 SA Water Polo team and travelled to Albury Wodonga to compete in the State Championships. It was the first time Milly has represented her State for sport and she enjoyed the experience, making new friends from both South Australia and other states.
Jessica Mieszkuc (Year 7) was selected in the SA Junior Calisthenics National Team earlier this year. The team will compete in Canberra in July. Jessica also competed in the Graceful Girl State Championships representing Brighton Calisthenics Club in April and performed beautifully. Well done Jess and Good luck in Canberra!
Milly Bradley, Isabella Cannell, Rylee Carne and Bella Viljoen (Year 7) recently made the South West Region SAPSASA Netball Team and competed at Priceline Stadium last week. The South West team finished in the top 4 of the competition.
Samara Farrell and Sasha Karaganova (Year 8) recently competed in the 2018 Australian Rhythmic Gymnastic Championships in Melbourne. Their SA Team of 6 members placed first out of 4 States with Samara also achieving 2 Bronze medals in 2 apparatus. A fantastic achievement for both girls.
Cara Killin (Year 9) competed in the Australian National Canoe Marathon Championships at West Lakes last weekend. Cara won Bronze in the U14 K1 Marathon and with her partner, they came 4th in the U16 K2 Marathon - they currently hold the State U16 K2 sprint title. Cara was identified through the SASI trials last year and through them, she has kayaked with Onkaparinga Club.
Tommi Norman (Year 9) was chosen to trial for the State U16 girls football team at the beginning of the year and she played in a curtain raiser at Adelaide Oval, before the Adelaide vs Collingwood game. From this, Tommi was selected in the "Girls High Performance Squad" for the Crows. Tommi is also a reserve for the U15 State Team.
Taylah Stallard (Year 9) has won a position as a reserve for the SA U15 Basketball Team, who will compete in four weeks time. Taylah currently pays for Sturt Sabres Basketball Club, as well as playing netball and basketball for Marymount.
Benjamin & Lucas Camporeale (Year 6), Oliver Betterman, Cooper Bobridge, Jack Clements, Thomas Corcoran, Benjamin Dewhirst, Max Downs, Harrison Francis, Jed Grabia, Chase Humphrey, Ethan McAneney, Charlie McAuliffe, Archer Rouvray, Bodie Ryan, Zane Scripps and Jack Wilson (Year 7) represented City South for SAPSASA Football. They played 9 games and won 8 and ended up being joint winners! Well done boys.
Aiden Cale and Thomas Valente (Year 8) particpated in a mountain biking event over the weekend 5-6 May. This event 'Dirty Weekend' run by Bike SA, was held at Fox Creek. These young lads entered into a 12 hour duo team challenge consisting of 2 sets of 6 hour rides. The first 6 hour ride was 2pm - 8pm on the Saturday. They camped overnight and rode again from 8am - 2pm the next day. They took turns in riding, with each lap taking between 35-45 minutes over challenging and rugged terrain. All up, they rode 124.8km totalling 10 hours 54 mins. They finished 12th overall in their category - out of 20 teams. This was an outstanding effort for these two young lads, up against an all male category consisting almost entirely of adults. It's a credit to them and a great sporting achievement to share!
Joseph McKinnon (Year 9) was a competitor at the recent Australian Surf Life Saving Championships, which were held at Scarborough, Perth. Joe competed in the 2km run and won Bronze. Well done Joe!
Jesse Moore (Year 10) recently flew to Colombia in compete in the Pacific-Rim Championships back in late April. He finished 7th in the all-around competition on day one. He qualified for four finals on day two and ended up winning a Bronze medal in the High Bar. Last weekend, Jesse competed in the Australian Championships in Melbourne where he was successful in winning his 4th Australian All-Around title in his age group in succession. As well as the all-round Gold, he won 5 Gold medals and a Bronze medal in the 6 individual apparatus competitions. Well done Jesse!
Emma Smith (Year 11) has been selected in the U17 Women's State Football team for 2018, competing in Darwin for the Nationals in May.
Scott Goodwin and Tessa Kohn (Year 11) represented SHC at the recent Secondary School Sport SA Cycling Tour Championships held at McLaren Vale and Sellicks Beach recently. The tour consisted of 4 stages: Stage 1 - 10km time trial; Stage 2 - Road race (distance depends on grade); Stage 3 - Criterium; Stage 4 - Road race (distance depends on grade). Tessa was the age group winner of the U19 Girls and overall winner of the A Grade Girls competition. Scott was the age group winner of the U19 Boys and placed 3rd overall in the A Grade Boys competition.
Emma De Broughe (Year 12) competed in Papua New Guinea recently for Hockey as part of the Oceania qualifiers to qualify for the Youth Olympic Games to be held in Buenos Aires in October 2018. The Australian team won the competition taking home Gold for the Oceania region as well as qualifying for the upcoming Youth Olympics. Congratulations Emma.
Joe Gauci (Year 12) has been successful in signing a contract with the A-League Squad, the Central Coast Mariners and will move to NSW to take up this opportunity in the coming weeks. Joe is a valued member of the College's First XI Soccer team and will be sorely missed. We wish Joe all the best as he follows his dreams.
Harrison Jiannis (Year 12) represented SA when he competed in the U18s ALA National Lacrosse Competition in April. Although SA didn't make the Grand Final, they were competitive with Harry having a solid tournament. International teams also competed in this event being Taiwan and New Zealand. Harry was awarded the MVP for SA against their game against Victoria, who went on to win the Grand Final.
Gemma MacFarlane (Year 12) has been selected to represent South Australia in the U17 Soccer NTC Challenge in Canberra.
Alice Priestly (Year 12) was a competitor at the recent Australian Surf Life Saving Championships, which were held at Scarborough and Trigg Island SLSC in Perth. Alice competed in the U17 Beach Relay team and came 6th in the final and she also made a semi-final for U17 Sprints. Alice also trialled for The University of Adelaide Romas Rugby team and was good enough to be selected into the Romas Squad of 30 for 2018. Alice is the youngest player in the squad and was picked up by talent selector James O Keefe, who coached the U17 Australian Youth 7.
Nathaniel Rowe (Year 12) has been selected for SA Senior Men's Lacrosse team and will be playing in the National Tournament in Perth on the June long weekend. All the best Nathaniel!
Jack Tanner (Year 12) represented the Golf SA junior state teams for the National Junior Interstate Series in Western Australia in April. Later this year Jack will go to California to complete in the World Junior Championships. These Championships are held at Torrey Pines, the same place where the US Open is held each year. We wish Jack a safe and successful trip to the USA.
Genevieve Patching (Year 6), Emily Sarcina (Year 7), Tia Smart (Year 8), Bernadette Patching and Mia Sarcina (Year 10) travelled to the USA in the last school holidays, to participate with Stage One Dance Studio for a dance tour. They had an absolute ball performing in a troupe of 10 in Orlando USA and on the Carnival Liberty Cruise ship in the Bahamas. The dancers performed at Disney Springs, Universal Studios, on the cruise ship and also did a workshop with Disney performers. As well as dancing, the dancers got to enjoy Disney World Parks and Universal Studios theme park, a trip to NASA Space station, Dinner at Planet Hollywood and lots of shopping and sightseeing.
Grace Bates, Kai Bowman, Kate Poland, Ava Threadgold, Allana White (Year 6), Grace Northam (Year 8), Cody Bowman and Ayden Breuker (Year 9) had some outstanding results amongst the 400 competitors from around Australia and New Zealand at the 2018 Australian Canoe Marathon Championships, held at West Lakes on 19 & 20 May. In the National Titles Medals, Grace Bates and Grace Northam won Silver in the Women U14 Double Kayak (TK2) over 11 km; Cody Bowman and Ayden Breuker won Silver in the Men U14 Double Kayak (TK2) over 11 km; Kate Poland and Kai Bowman won Bronze in the U12 Double Kayak (TK2) over 7.5 km; Allana White and Ava Threadgold came fourth in the U12 Double Kayak (TK2) over 7.5 km; and Kate Poland won Bronze in the U12 Single Kayak (TK1) over 7.5 km. Congratulations and extremely well done!
