The 8/9B3 team showed loads of enthusiasm at training and the boys revelled in being part of a team. It was therefore no surprise that the side finished on top of the table, winning the Middle B3 competition. The Intercol medalist for the team was Frank Herbut who played very well, despite Rostrevor winning the derby. Much gratitude is extended to David Herbut for managing the boys with great guidance and leadership.
The 8/9B1 squad had many fine moments throughout the year. They demonstrated their ability to play some fine football and were able to defeat some very skilful opponents. The Intercol match was one for the ages. The game went down to the wire with Hearts coming out 3-2 victors. The Sacred Heart boys all played extremely well, especially Dylan Gilford who won the Intercol medal. Thank you to the coach, Gavin Walsh, who displayed great patience and knowledge for the players.
The 8/9A side was expertly coached by old scholar, Liam Brown. The team played some excellent football, thus finishing second in the Middle A League. The Intercol Medal was awarded to Oscar Gohl, the captain, for his courage and all round excellent defending from the back line. In the 8/9 Boys Metro Knock-out series, the team played some awesome football. Hearts defeated Brighton Secondary in a tight first round contest, before being eliminated from the tournament in the second round to Cabra College.
Due to the enthusiasm and commitment of parent volunteers and the students themselves, our Year 8/9 soccer players demonstrated well rounded skills.
