Social Justice (Issue 6 2018)
Written on the 10 May 2018
As we head into our colder months we are launching a winter appeal with our MSol students and the wider community at Sacred Heart.
We are committed to supporting some local organisations during winter to help make the difference for those who are struggling in our community.
The Adelaide Day Centre is a place of refuge for homeless men in the city of Adelaide. They are a non-profit organisation with the aim of connecting the community and providing meal assistance. We will be supporting Adelaide Day Centre by students and staff volunteering their time to make soup every three weeks for them to distribute.
We will also be sleeping in solidarity with the homeless on our streets with our Winter Sleepout. This year we will be joining in with students from Cardijn College on Friday 8 June, as a wider Marist community wanting to make a difference.
The Winter Sleepout allows students to raise awareness to support the work of the St Vincent de Paul Society and, at the same time, collecting much needed blankets, clothing and sleeping bags to support Adelaide's homeless.
Help us to support these two local organisations, and the incredible students who are volunteering their time to make this difference, by donating any spare blankets, quilts, jackets coats, or sleeping bags you might have. Or, if you would like to help with the soup making, any donations of stock/vegetables/pasta would be greatly appreciated.
