Sports Day 2017 (Issue 3 2017)
Written on the 8 March 2017
On Friday 3 March 2017 students and staff arrived to a stunningly manicured and well prepared Main Oval - enthusiasm, optimism and anticipation running high. As 1000 students descended on to the oval to contest the very first Sports Day in the new House structure, everyone was ambitious to claim the title of the inaugural winning team.
This year Sports Day was a week-long sports festival as the 800m, 1500m, Year 12 long jump and the tug-of-war heats commenced before school or throughout lunch during the week prior to Sports Day. The tally of points saw Chavoin House take to the lead early. It was obvious they had understood the importance of showing up and collecting points for participating.
Friday arrived and Dan Ryan, Director of Music, took to the microphone as the official MC to welcome the revellers to Sports Day and call each sport. Fourviere House, inevitably taking out the Spirit Award, entered the arena in strong voice, singing their cheers crafted by Marisa Favila, "We are Fourviere, we are Fourviere". The entire day saw plenty of colour and excitement as students embraced the College community event.
We give thanks unreservedly to the student captains who encouraged participation among their House, and to the staff of the College. The contribution that staff made to the event across the board ensured the day was a great success.
