To our Sacred Heart Community

Year 12 Art, Design & Photography Exhibition Opening Night (Thursday 28 October)

The Year 12 Art, Design & Photography Exhibition was a big success! Opening night was on Thursday 28 October, with many students and parents attending in celebration of finishing such a huge amount of work for these subjects.

It was wonderful to be able to view such a large variety of individualised and creative pieces, all finalised to a very high standard. It is always a special night when our artists, designers and photographers are able to share their work proudly with their parents and other students.

Champagnat Band Tour (Tuesday 2 November)

The Champagnat Annual Band Tour visited St Bernadettes, St Martin De Porres and Stella Maris schools. The audience were thoroughly entertained by the Concert Band, Drumline and Superband. Although a hot day, the Sacred Heart students loaded and unloaded the bus, setting up for 3 concerts across the day. Great work to the students involved and thank you to Mrs Saba (Concert Band Director) and Mr Hamood, who stepped in to lead the Superband.

The Concert Band were again busy with a combined rehearsal with McAuley’s concert band. After the cancellation of the combined concert earlier in the year, Ryan Mifsud – Music Teacher at McAuley and Robyn Brookes embarked on a way to bring these groups together and showcase their musical learning. As Mrs Saba takes Concert Band at both schools, she did a marvellous job of teaching both groups and her passion is an inspiration to all.

Year 10 & Stage 1 Group Drama Production (Monday 8 November)

On Monday, the Year 10 Drama & Stage One Drama classes combined to present a night of comedy, with the Year 10s performing Jonathan Rand’s play, Breaking Badly and Stage One students a play by Ian McWethy called, The Internet is Distract- Oh Look a Kitten! Students participated in a number of on-stage and off stage roles, including acting, film and media, publicity, set design as well as lighting and sound design. Both classes were well prepared and entertained audiences with their on point comic timing and delivery. A fun night filled with laughter was enjoyed by all.

Year 10 & 11 Music Concert (Tuesday 9 November)

Over two separate concerts, our Year 10 & 11 Music students performed solo to an audience of family and friends. Performing solo is confronting and nerves were high, however, the students showed courage and resilience, showcasing their talents. We thank these students and their instrument teachers for their hard work leading up to this night.

Band Sandwich (Thursday 11 November)

Despite the wet weather, Band Sandwich was a night that truly showcased the talented students and ensembles at Sacred Heart’s Champagnat campus. Rock bands, Drumline, Superband, Concert Band, Guitar band, Jazz Choir and Vocal ensemble featured, interspersed with performances by our two violin students – Cazel and Ben, duo Grace and Caitlin and the singing students – complete with hair-ography!

The Concert Band from McAuley School also performed, and then combined with Sacred Heart’s Concert Band  to play ‘Power Rock’ and ‘Happy’. The big sound created a memorable moment for the students and audience alike.

I thank the Ensemble Directors for all their hard work over the Semester, rehearsing each week and their dedication to getting a great performance result. Lastly, a big thank you to all the students who shined onstage, showing their love and passion for music.

VET Music Industry Recording

In Week 3, Year 11 Certificate III Music Industry Students headed to the TAFE SA College of the Arts on Light Square in the CBD. There the students had the opportunity to record demos of their class ensembles. The TAFE SA Certificate IV Music Production students managed the recording process while students performed in the studio.

After many takes of their own band songs, the whole class piled into the studio to do a fun take of The Chats’ ‘Pub Feed.’ The students had the opportunity to tour the facilities and also watch an assessment performance of current Certificate IV Music Performance students.

This was a great opportunity for students to explore continuing pathways in Music Study and we very much thank Music Director, Robyn Brookes, for her organisation of the day. We hope to return to work with TAFE SA again in 2022.
