Founder's Day 2018

Friday 11 May was a significant occasion as special guests, Marist Brothers, Hall of Honour inductees and their families,

staff and students of Sacred Heart College gathered for Founders' Day; Our first official gathering as one community from
Sacred Heart Middle, Marymount and Sacred Heart Senior.

Our Liturgy focussed on the Family Spirit that binds our school and this was showcased through the short film We are
Sacred Heart which captured the breadth of our community through interviews and archival footage. The film has been
uploaded onto the SHC Website Homepage as well as the Sacred Heart College facebook page.

We also commissioned the new Aboriginal artwork on the gates of the Main Oval carpark. The mural was designed by
prominent South Australian Aboriginal Artist, Allan Sumner, and showcases Aboriginal culture and its importance within
the Sacred Heart community.

Following the Liturgy, the 2,000 strong contingent of staff and students marched to Seacliff in solidarity with our global
Marist community. Over $10,000 was raised for Marist projects in Sri Lanka, India, Fiji and the Philippines where a group
of Year 11 students and staff will visit later in the year as part of the Marist Immersion Experience. The funds raised will
rebuild classrooms in Southern India and the Philippines, upgrade living and working facilities for Marist Brothers in Fiji
and the Philippines, and assist trainee Brothers in Sri Lanka. Furthermore, we will provide countless amounts of stationary,
books and other educational material for primary and secondary students across Marist schools in these four countries.
Most exciting about the walk was the opportunity for students across the three campuses to walk together in House groups.
It was no surprise that our Year 6 and 7's were at the front of the pack and certainly set a solid pace for our senior students!
House Captains proudly flew the house banners upon departure and was a wonderful sight to see our entire student body
participate in the march with such enthusiasm and vigour for the cause in which we were celebrating.

Despite the cool weather and a drop of rain, the warm Family Spirit was clearly evident as we acknowledged our Marian
heritage and Marist mission as one Sacred Heart College!
