From the Deputy Principal (Friday 22 October)

To our Sacred Heart Community

Year 12 Graduation Mass (Wednesday 20 October)

This week our Class of 2021 commenced the concluding celebrations of their time at Sacred Heart College.

The theme for the Year 12 Graduation Mass “Facing the Future with Audacity and Hope” inspires each of us to continue living our Marist identity well beyond Graduation Day. Audacity means to act with courage and hope requires belief in the future.

On Wednesday night, the Year 12 graduates and their families gathered in the Br McAteer Centre with the Marist Brothers and Sacred Heart College staff to celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2021. The current Mission Captains, Kristy and Jared, highlighted the strength of their classmates to form a lasting bond whilst making a positive difference to the community around them, despite the challenges of the previous two years. My Byrne reflected on the Marist themes of the past two years; What are you going to do with your “One Wild and Precious Life” and in Breathing the Spirit of Life, are you willing to “listen, ponder and act” positively and with good purpose into the future.

From Kristy and Jared’s Mission Captain Address:

To the graduating class of 2021. Now is our time. Our time to forge our path in the world. To celebrate our incredible journey so far. And to discover who we really are. Our time we have spent together as a year level has been nothing short of amazing. And although years may pass and friendships may fade, we will always have the time we shared together at Sacred Heart and our memories that we created. We are living in the golden days right now! We will reminisce on these moments when we are old and grey. Remembering our time at Sacred Heart, for we all know that…Once a Heart. Always a Heart. This is truly a “Home for all Hearts”.

Year 12 Graduation Celebrations (Thursday 21 October)

On Thursday afternoon, Marcellin Campus gathered for the Year 12 Graduation Assembly where we recognised the outstanding achievements of the graduating class. The celebration in Walter Park marked the beginning of the next phase for our Year 12 students. As they shared memories with one another, the Class of 2021 acknowledged the challenges they had overcome throughout the year had been driven by the strength and resilience of their fellow peers.

The Year 12 Boarders Graduation Dinner was held on Thursday evening at Glenelg Golf Club, celebrating the conclusion of their time in the Boarding House. It was wonderful to see our Boarding families gather for such a significant occasion and recognise the complexities this year has produced for life in Boarding.

RAA Street Smart High

Our Year 10’s joined 8,000 other senior secondary students at the RAA Street Smart High presentation on Tuesday 19th October at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. Street Smart High is an annual road safety education event hosted by RAA in conjunction with the Motor Accident Commission and aims to reduce the state’s shocking youth road toll.

The program featured a realistic crash scene reenactment involving vehicles, emergency services and actors. The aim of this re-enactment is to be as close as possible to a real-life crash. Students also heard from people whose lives have been affected by road trauma. I have every confidence this was a formative experience for our students.

Face Masks in Schools

Following the announcement from Premier Steven Marshall, the wearing of face masks will be optional for all students and staff in secondary high schools from Monday 25 October.

The College is committed to following the guidelines of the State and Federal Government.

It is with mixed emotions that I write what will be my last Blog for Sacred Heart College, while I am technically still at the College until the end of the year, I’m taking Long Service Leave for the next 6 weeks and will return in Week 9 after students have completed their final days of the year.

To say I have thoroughly enjoyed my years at Sacred Heart College would be an understatement and as I share with you the final words in my address at the Graduation Assembly yesterday I would like to say thank you to the students, staff and Hearts Community for making my time at Sacred Heart some of the greatest years of my career.

“From the moment I began at Sacred Heart I recognised that this place was about community, family and belonging. To all Year 12’s and also other students and staff who will end their time at Sacred Heart this year, just because you’ll no longer walk through the gates each day it doesn’t mean that you aren’t part of the Hearts Community anymore.

We will always be a part of Sacred Heart and we will always be part of the Hearts Community … even if at Intercol next year I’m seen wearing red and black!

Breathe the spirit of life and the spirit of Marcellin Champagnat wherever you go.

We are A Home for all Hearts.

We are Sacred Heart.”
