Year 10 SACE Parent Information Night (Wednesday 23 February)

The Year 10 SACE Parent Information Night was held virtually this week, presenting information around the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE). The SACE is awarded to students upon the successful completion of Year 12 studies. Compulsory studies that contribute towards the SACE begin at Year 10. There are a number of implications for SACE completion that relate to subject choice, levels of achievement and compulsory elements. SACE studies are also relevant for University entry direct from school.

If you were unable to join the Google Meet, a recording has been made available to families via https://youtu.be/9PVJekCLIo8

Marist Solidarity (Msol) Launch

Service is a key pillar of Marist schools and communities and at both campuses this week, the Youth Ministers and Mission Leaders launched MSol for 2022. The MSol initiative looks to meet the needs of the community in various ways, mostly through fundraising and awareness campaigns.

In Term 1, MSol will support Project Compassion, International Women’s Day, Harmony Day and the Marist Missions. We encourage all students and staff to embrace the opportunity to get involved in MSol activities either through active participation or support as we know it builds upon our sense of Family Spirit and humility.

More information on upcoming activities is available through our Youth Ministers; Liv Higgins (Champagnat Campus) and Cara McGlaughlin (Marcellin Campus).

One of the great privileges in working with young people is the inspiration we, as educators, get to draw from them. This week, our Boarding leaders Mel Makin, Brad Hayes, Demi Lovelock and Charlie Jones have made national news here after their powerful letter was published in the Southern Cross.

We look forward to a time when COVID doesn’t permeate our day-to-day business at Sacred Heart, and at present we are living in a constant struggle between craving normality whilst striving to keep our community safe. In a pleasing step towards normality, we are excited for the return to music tuition, ensembles and choirs, excursions, and interschool sports from next week.

Whilst parent attendance at sports is limited to outdoor spectating, we are sure the many hundreds of students who will be participating in sports from next week will be grateful for the opportunity – and whether in their first or their final year in the community, they will contribute to, and build upon, 125 years of tradition.
