To our Sacred Heart Community
Reusable Masks & Environmental Footprint
As it seems that wearing masks will be a continued requirement in schools for the next while, we are very aware of the impact that the disposal of masks places on the environment. In an effort to reduce our own environmental footprint, we ask that our staff and students, where and if possible, use reusable masks. We will continue to have a supply of disposable masks for staff and students to use but encourage all in our community to consider the wearing of a reusable face mask.
Parent Events – Diary Dates
The ever changing COVID-19 restrictions means it has become harder to plan and confirm a number of parent information nights and gatherings that would normally occur. While we work through ongoing changes to COVID restrictions it means that some planned events might occur at the last moment and some might be cancelled or postponed. We understand that this is not ideal but ask for your understanding and support.
Spectators at School Sport
We all look forward to our curriculum extension activities resuming this weekend and I have no doubt that students will be keen to get back to their chosen sport or activity. There are still a range of regulations surrounding spectators attending sport and we ask for your support and cooperation as we adhere to the regulations put in place by SA Heath and the SA Government.
Visitors to SHC are required to adhere to the following SA Health guidelines:
Indoor Events
- No spectators permitted for indoor sports. Note: One person is permitted to attend if they are required to be present as a Caregiver for a participant.
- If you can safely leave your child under the supervision of the coach then you should do so.
- The intent of the SA Health directive is “if you don’t need to come inside, then you shouldn’t”.
- All adults (including staff & coaches) must COVID-Safe check in each time they enter the site.
- Face Masks must be worn (including staff & coaches).
- Parents and Caregivers must leave immediately following the match.
- All student players must ‘play and leave’.
Outdoor Events
- Spectators permitted at outdoor sports.
- Face Masks must be worn (including staff & coaches).
- Parents and Caregivers must leave immediately following the match.
- When on site all visitors must wear a face mask and practice physical distancing.
- All adults (including staff & coaches) must COVID-Safe check in each time they enter the site.
- All student players must ‘play and leave’.
- Seated consumption of food and beverage (outdoors and indoors).
Anonymous Reporting Tool
All Marist schools are required to have simple and age-appropriate processes to support students in reporting abuse, inappropriate behaviour or other safety concerns about themselves or others. To this end, this week we launched an anonymous reporting tool to empower students to come forward and help themselves or other students.
Anonymous reporting tools have become increasingly prevalent in Australian schools and have been shown to help combat bullying and support student safety. Students have been emailed a link to the form and it has been placed in the ‘Portals’ section of SEQTA so that they can access it at any time.
We hope that this tool provides yet another opportunity for students to seek support for themselves and others when it is needed.
Hutt Street Centre Walk-a-Mile
National Homelessness Week (1-7 August) raises awareness of homelessness in Australia and the importance of social housing as a long-term solution. In 2021, Sacred Heart College will again participate in the “Walk a Mile in My Boots” awareness and fundraising initiative, supporting the Hutt Street Centre’s appeal to assist over 6,000 South Australians currently experiencing homelessness.
Next week, Champagnat Campus and Marcellin Campus will hold separate events on Wednesday & Friday Morning for Walk a Mile. We encourage our Hearts Community to support this important cause via https://www.walkamile.org.au/fundraisers/sacredheartcollege
As a Marist community, we continue to raise awareness and provide support for those experiencing homelessness in South Australia.
Positive Education Pillars at Sacred Heart College
With so much uncertainty in our world as a result of the ongoing dynamics of the pandemic, ensuring our mental and emotional health is looked after and supported has never been more important.
Earlier this year, we shared with you the Positive Education Pillars that we have at Sacred Heart. These pillars form the foundation of the Wellbeing programs we provide, with our ongoing goal of supporting every member in our Hearts Community.
