From the Principal (Friday 12 February)

To our Sacred Heart Community

Laureate Assembly

On Wednesday, we formally celebrated the outstanding academic achievements of our Class of 2020 at the Laureate Assembly. Achieving 100% SACE completion and 32 merits, the Year 12 cohort faced 2020 with resilience and courage.

College Dux, Isabelle Merrett spoke to our Hearts Community about passion, gratitude and the importance of never underestimating your abilities. To our Class of 2020, we wish you the best of luck as you start the next chapter of your journey in this one wild and precious life!

Living & Learning at Sacred Heart College – Wellbeing

This week we share with you the second iteration of our Living & Learning at Sacred Heart College video series. Alex Dighton (Head of Marcellin Campus) and Matthew Laverty (College Captain 2021) unpack Wellbeing at Sacred Heart College and outline how positive education is experienced and embedded in our daily lives.

Champagnat Opening Mass

On Thursday morning, we gathered as a whole campus to celebrate the opening of the school year in the sharing of eucharist. The Mass also saw us farewell Fr. John Shanahan who has been a long time supporter of the College and has celebrated many masses with us at Mitchell Park. At the conclusion of Mass, the 2021 Year 8 and Year 9 Student Leaders were commissioned and pledged their leadership commitment in front of both students and staff.

At the conclusion of the Mass the Principal’s address focused on the safety of our students when travelling to and from school in light of recent reports from members of the public. Some of our students are taking unnecessary risks and need to be more mindful of their wellbeing and those around them. A specific communication has been made with the families of Brighton and Hove in regard to a specific ‘near miss’.

Please have a serious conversation with your child/children and implore them to be safe and to take no risks on our roads, trains and buses.

Year 9 Leaders Camp

Earlier this week our Year 9 Leaders ventured off site to West Beach Parks for our Leadership Formation Camp. Students spent time planning the year ahead, setting goals and strengthened their leadership qualities. Most importantly, they discovered how best to work as a team.

Our Year 12 leaders joined the camp for the afternoon session, leading our Year 9s through a variety of activities. A shared meal followed and cross campus relationships formed. It was wonderful to see our Year 9s and 12s talking about leadership initiatives and life at Sacred Heart. We are thankful to the Year 12s for their generosity of time and support of the Year 9 Leaders Camp.

Our Year 9 leaders are excited and ready for the challenge that lies ahead and we wish them all the best with their journey!
