From the Principal (Friday 12 November)

To our Sacred Heart Community

Remembrance Day

On Thursday, students and staff on both campuses gathered to commemorate Remembrance Day. The ceremony recognised First Nations people who fought and died for their country.

It is hard to comprehend but this occurred at a time in Australia’s history where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders were not yet classified as citizens, proving we still have a long way to go with the process of reconciliation. Listening to the poem “In Flanders Fields” was a timely reminder of the devastation of war and the sacrifice of so many, and the “Ode of Remembrance” and the “Last Post” provided a moment of reflection and silence.

Thank you to those who participated in the ceremonies. To those in our community who continue to be affected by war, our thoughts are with you.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning…

We will remember them.

Curriculum Extension Activities Nominations 2022

Sacred Heart College offers a broad Curriculum Extension Activities Program giving our students the opportunity to participate in a range of sports, music and clubs. Participation in these activities provides a great opportunity for students to be more connected to the College, whilst pursuing a passion or learning a new skill. It also provides teachers and parents/caregivers to form partnerships in the education of our students.

Nominations for sports, music & clubs are now open and must be completed Tuesday 30 November, any late nominations may not guarantee placement in a team. Online Nominations are to be submitted via the College website (https://www.shc.sa.edu.au/learning/co-curricular/) and students are encouraged to read the Sports Handbook & Music Handbook before making their nomination. Families received correspondence regarding Online Nominations on Monday afternoon.

The International Climate Change conference concludes in Glasgow today. At the Marcellin Staff Chapel reflection this morning I shared my observation that whilst governments play politics with the future of our planet, we people at the grass roots are adopting smaller carbon footprints along with many ethical corporate citizens.

I am of the view that our government is not listening to the people they supposedly represent and the ecology of our planet, nation, state, city and neighborhoods are suffering because of it.

However, most of us seem to be making some kind of effort and this is part of an empathetic response to a global problem. All journeys start with small steps!
