From the Principal (Friday 14 January)

To our Sacred Heart Community

Greetings for 2022, albeit not quite the commencement of the school year we were looking forward to!

This is an overview of the current situation as of this morning.

As you would be aware the Premier confirmed yesterday that the return to school will be as follows:

  • The formal start date for schools will be delayed until Wednesday 2 February.
  • Monday 31 January and Tuesday 1 February will be given over to staff preparation.
  • On Wednesday 2 February school resumes. Years 7, 8 and 12 students (including any students studying a Year 12 subject) will have ‘face-to-face’ classes on campus.
  • All other year levels will begin with remote/online learning delivered by teachers from school.
  • All Boarding Students are welcome to return and a specific program will be shared with the Boarding families next week.

As has been the case previously, the College will be open to students whose parents are essential workers and for students who are considered vulnerable, regardless of their year level.

This situation will continue until Friday 11 February, and on Monday 14 February, all students will return to face to face lessons.

There will be a meeting with the Minister this morning, during which we will receive confirmation of the COVID safe protocols that will be in place for the return to school, as well as the settings that will be applied to Rapid Antigen Testing, close contacts, student outbreaks and other matters.

Once we have this information, the College Executive (Principal, Deputy Principal, Heads of Campus and the Finance and Operations Managers) will consider the information and seek further advice from Catholic Education SA. We will endeavour to provide greater detail around the commencement of the 2022 school year as outlined above early next week.

We are very aware of the numerous questions and some anxieties around the prevailing situation, especially in regard to our new students. Please be assured that we have successfully navigated the past two years and your support in this is crucial and greatly appreciated.

What a way to commence our 125th (quasquicentennial) Anniversary!

Warm regards

Steve Byrne
