College Sports Day (Friday 18 March)

Today we celebrated the annual Champagnat & Marcellin Sports Days! Participating in the most anticipated days of the school year, students dressed up in House colours and had a day of competition and House Spirit.

Sports Day is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the athletic abilities and family spirit of our College. A big thank you to our Sports Department, Maintenance Team and Grounds Team who ensure the day runs smoothly by providing equipment and a brilliant track for our athletes to compete on.

Supporting our Marist Community – Trinity Catholic College Lismore

As a community built on Family Spirit, we continue to think of the staff, students and families at Trinity Catholic College in Lismore, impacted by the recent flooding. This week, College Leaders from both schools connected via Zoom to talk about the impact of the flooding. Tate and James discovered that many families retreated to the roofs of their homes to escape the rising flood waters, damage to many homes and businesses is significant and lingering smell is difficult to tolerate. Whilst the wider community are collaborating to support each other, at times, they feel as though they have been forgotten by government agencies that should be supporting them.

Most significantly, Trinity’s leaders shared openly about the impact this is having on their schooling. School buildings have been damaged almost beyond repair, items vital for learning are unusable and the well-being of many staff and students is fluctuating. They are, however, very grateful for the support of their teachers, ESO’s, counsellors and each other. To offer our support, proceeds from this week’s Sports Day BBQ will be donated to Trinity Catholic College and we have committed to reconnecting with their student leaders throughout the year.

“There’s nothing we can do to change what’s happened, so we think being positive at this time is important” – Daniel (College Captain, Trinity Catholic College)

A message from Catholic Education South Australia – State Election 2022

SACCS wrote to all political parties with candidates in this election and asked them to provide Catholic Education South Australia with their party’s response to the 7 key issues that are of significance to families and the Catholic education sector. The Labor Party and the Liberal Party were the only parties that responded to this request.

CESA have developed a flyer that provides information about the position the two major political parties in South Australia have taken on these issues. This summary of commitments aims to make it easy for those in the community to see the support being offered to students in Catholic schools. Click here to view the flyer.

“When Sacred Heart College was at Semaphore and Largs Bay” (Sunday 10 April)

In celebration of the College’s 125 Year, Br Michael Green will be making a presentation on the early history of Sacred Heart College. In his presentation, Brother Michael will discuss the first two decades of the Marist Brothers’ presence in Adelaide from the late 1890s, most of which played out in Largs Bay, Port Adelaide, and Semaphore. Both Sacred Heart College and Marist Brothers’ Alberton (now part of Mount Carmel College) trace their origins to those years and places.

You are warmly invited to attend the presentation on Sunday 10 April 2022 at 4.00pm – 5.00pm at the Lefevre Catholic Community Meeting Rooms (253 Military Road, Semaphore). Click here to view the flyer.

Sports Day at Sacred Heart is one of those special days whereby the students and staff experience what I’m calling the joy of youth! There is plenty of colour, dress-ups, chanting, cheering and competing. It is indeed a celebration of youth!

In commencing the Champagnat festivities we took a moment of gratitude to acknowledge our appreciation for the opportunities provided us by the staff of the College, the students’ enthusiasm and leadership in preparation and participation on the day which are conducted on the spacious grounds of Champagnat!

We also took a moment to reflect on the plight of the children of Ukraine. Our prayers and thoughts are with them!

Best wishes
