From the Principal (Friday 18 September)

To our Sacred Heart Community

Year 8 Girls Division Debaters

Congratulations to the Year 8 Girls Division Debaters: Grace Durrans, Anneliese Pittman, Caitlin Bailey and Ella Davies who delivered an outstanding performance in the Debating SA Semi-Finals held at Nazareth Catholic College. This win has earned them a spot in the Grand Finals on Saturday 26th September 2020. The girls are to be commended on their dedication, passion and enthusiasm which they have shown throughout the season.

A special mention also goes to Caitlin Bailey who was awarded as the Speaker of the Night (an award which recognises excellence in debating) during the Semi-Finals debate.

Wishing them all the best in the finals next week!

Term 3 General Assembly – VET (Wednesday 16 September)

On Wednesday, Marcellin Campus staff and students gathered in the Marist Hall, Br McAteer Centre for the Term 3 General Assembly. As part of the assembly, we recognised our current Year 12 VET students who will by the end of the year, achieve a full or partial certificate in their chosen field and and students from other year levels who have or are on track to obtain a Level III Certificate this year.

Every week, over 170 Sacred Heart College students participate in a VET learning pathway that is valued by employers and is responsive to the changing nature of work across the state’s economy. Many of the occupations and skills identified as being in shortage over the next five years are in sectors that students can commence their training in while still in school through the College’s VET Program.

Congratulations to all students who have completed their Certificate II or III across a range of different industries and a special congratulations to Tyler Mathews who was awarded Year 12 VET Student of the Year!

Stage 2 Dance Exam Performance (Thursday 17 September)

Last night, the Stage 2 Dance Class presented their Exam performance in the Br Stephen Debourg Performing Arts Centre Auditorium. This performance represented their 30% external component for Stage 2 Dance. The students performed with the Stage 1 Dancers to present four dance pieces in a range of genres including, contemporary, lyrical, jazz and tap.

The evening finished with the Stage 2 students’ choreographies which were created earlier in the year, these consisted of dance films and a live performance. Congratulations to all the dancers involved on a stunning and moving performance!

Special thanks also to Ms Bianca Baulis and music students Gaila Morrison, Grace Northam and Harvey Otto who supported the evening with highly polished, professional musical acts.

Marcellin Campus Annual Christmas Hamper Appeal

Every year Marcellin Campus students and staff get together to create Christmas Hampers for disadvantaged people in 5 different St Vincent de Paul Conferences in the Southern Area (St Marys, Morphett Vale, Seacombe Gardens, Glenelg & Brighton).

Each Homeroom is responsible for creating a Christmas Hamper for a specific family within these areas. Hampers consist of food items and small gifts to help create a little Christmas joy to the less fortunate. In these hard times of COVID-19 the need is greater than ever to spread Christmas cheer.

Students are asked to donate new goods and/or money to create the hampers which are then collected by the St Vincent de Paul volunteers and distributed in time for Christmas. Year 12’s are asked to contribute to the Appeal by Thursday 22 October (Week 2, Term 4). Year 10’s & Year 11’s are asked to contribute to the Appeal by Friday 20 November (Week 6, Term 4).

2020 Winter Sports Season Concludes

Last Saturday’s Intercollegiate Round with Rostrevor concluded the weekend sports competition for the winter season. It was good of the Premier, Mr Stephen Marshall to drop by as well!

A number of State knockouts continue and most conclude next week. A ‘wrap up’ will be presented in next week’s edition but something to ponder are the number of sports teams across the College.

The participation rate is most pleasing given the establishment of Champagnat Campus girls sports program is only in its second year. These numbers suggest that Netball is now the most popular sport at the College!

Founders Day (Friday 25 September)

A reminder fundraising is well underway for next week’s annual Founder’s Day and Mission March.

We will be seeking to raise much needed funds for Marist community projects in India, Sri Lanka, Fiji and The Philippines. This year, more than ever, these communities need our support. We are encouraging all students to raise a minimum of $10.00 to go towards our fundraising pool in 2020.

All donations will be made online through the following link: www.mycause.com.au/page/234398/founders-day-marist-mission-appeal
Prizes will be awarded for the highest individual donor in each House at each campus, so be sure to include all required details when submitting your donation.

Thank you for your support of our Marist mission.
