From the Principal (Friday 19 June)

To our Sacred Heart Community

Welcome to Sacred Heart

Last week, over two hundred enrolment interviews were conducted with families and their children seeking enrolment in 2022. Many of these conversations began with ‘Welcome to Sacred Heart!’.

For the past few months we have had to endure a crisis whereby people beyond our students and staff could not be welcomed physically onto Champagnat Campus or Marcellin Campus.

In response, we’ve put together a ‘virtual welcome’. We have chosen not to do this as a tour of our buildings and facilities, but to invite students and staff to share their views of various aspects of the College.

Welcome to Sacred Heart – 2020 style!

Feast of the Sacred Heart

Today is the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, one of the greatest devotions of Christianity in our Church. For our community, it is particularly significant – it is our name! And what a beautiful name it is.

To appropriately acknowledge our identity as a Marist community would be to acknowledge the significance of this Feast Day – where we recognise the infinite love of Jesus Christ. We need look no further than the centre of our College crest as a reminder of this devotion. Sacred Heart of Jesus, we place our trust in you.

Brother Joe Hughes Book Launch

Brother Joe Hughes is a cherished  and active member of our Marist Community. This year he celebrates his Diamond Jubilee – 60 years as a Marist Brother. To commemorate this occasion, Br. Joe has written an autobiographical memoir to his nieces and nephews which tell his life story; from his early days at a Marist school in rural WA, to his first Principalship in Melbourne, his assignment in the Solomon Islands, and now as a member of the Adelaide Marist community.

A small gathering of Brothers, Members of the Marist Association and Staff gathered last Friday evening to launch the book, “Brother John aka Brother Joe Hughes”.

Congratulations Br. Joe!

Sibling Enrolments

Applications are currently being finalised for commencement in Year 7 in 2021 and 2022. Current families with siblings eligible for commencement at these entry levels are requested to please complete an Application for Enrolment Form for their child as soon as possible.

Application Forms can be accessed from the College website or collected from the Front Office at both the Champagnat and Marcellin Campuses. It is important that applications for all siblings are received well in advance to ensure placement.

Planning is well underway for the 2021 school year. A reminder for families that may be considering leaving the College at the end of 2020, that written leaving notification to the Principal one term in advance is required. Failure to give such notice will incur an exit fee in accordance with our current enrolment agreement.

For Enrolment enquiries, please contact College Registrar, Virginia Miller on 8350 2580 or via email registrar@shc.sa.edu.au.

For Boarding enquiries, please contact Boarding Registrar, Bernadette Buchanan on 8350 2559 or via email boarding@shc.sa.edu.au.

As further restrictions at the College have been lifted in recent days, the College Leadership Teams are working their way through the implications. A further update will be provided in next week’s blog.

Stay well.
