From the Principal (Friday 8 May)

To our Sacred Heart Community

Roger French

As we mourn the loss of Roger, we have been overwhelmed with kindness and in true Marist spirit, have been inundated with support from our Hearts Community.

We would like to thank Catholic Education SA, Marist Schools Australia, St Mary’s College, Assumption College, St Leonard’s Primary School, Thomas More College, Rostrevor College, Cabra Dominican College, McAuley Community School & The Stella Maris Community for their thoughtful words & gestures over the last week.

Roger’s Funeral Service will be conducted in the College Chapel at 11.30am on Monday 11 May. Our students & staff will form a Guard of Honour along the Heart Lawn to Whyte Street as a mark of respect for Roger and his contribution to the Hearts Community. The service will be recorded and is available for our Community to view via https://livestream.com/accounts/8710393/events/9119292

Anzac Service

Given the prevailing restrictions around large gatherings the 2020 ANZAC Service was presented via video.

The presentation begins with an explanation as to the significance of the College Chapel and its unique place in Australian Marist Schools history.

It is an outstanding production made possible by our very talented students and staff. It runs for twenty five minutes and is well worth a reflective moment.

Face to Face Teaching

Next week will be very close to ‘business as usual’ across the classes of the College.

We will resume usual classroom teaching and learning, practical subjects and learning activities across the arts, technology, physical education and science.

Online learning has kept the learning moving but there is no substitute for a comprehensive, holistic teaching and learning experience for students and this includes personal interactions and a range of learning activities.

This is exciting for both students and staff!

So, there is a sense of hope that life in our fine city and state is improving as we work through the challenges of this pandemic.

Finally, special best wishes to all our Mums for Mother’s Day!

Stay well!
