From the Principal (Thursday 2 February)

To our Sacred Heart Community

Welcome to 2023

As Sacred Heart College’s 21st Principal, I offer a very warm welcome to all members of the Sacred Heart Family, as we commence the 2023 school year.

It is my privilege to be re-joining this community, having previously served as your Deputy Principal between 2015 and 2018.

I look forward to leading the College in its 126th year.

Boarders’ Welcome Mass and Dinner

On Tuesday evening, our boarding families gathered for their annual AGM, Welcome Mass and dinner. At Mass in the McAteer Centre, Fr Matthew entertained the congregation with his humour and insights. He expanded on the first reading to give some timely advice to our new and returning boarders; to love each other as sisters and brothers should, and to make hospitality obvious to all.

The Mass was followed by a fantastic dinner under the marquee. There is certainly a great sense of family spirit amongst our boarding families and boarding staff.

It was St Marcellin’s vision to offer a Marist education far and wide and in particular, the rural areas. We wish our boarders a smooth transition back to their ‘home away from home’, and warmly welcome those boarders and families joining our College in 2023.

Parent Welcome Evenings

We welcome parents/caregivers to our upcoming welcome evenings, beginning tonight with the Champagnat Campus Parent Welcome Evening at 6pm

These evenings are aimed at presenting Sacred Heart College’s key staff, an overview of our Marist Ethos, teaching and learning expectations/provisions, and approaches to student wellbeing. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions and meet your child(ren)s teachers. We look forward to

Champagnat Campus – Tonight (Thursday 2 February), 6pm

Marcellin Campus – Tuesday 7 February, 6pm

Hearts Hangout

Hearts Hangout returns this year at Marcellin Campus, now in a new location – the transportable off the netball courts.

For those new to the campus, Hearts Hangout is open every lunchtime to all students as a space to get to know new peers across all year levels, fostering family spirit. In this space, students can engage in board games, music and more fun! This is predominantly led by student leaders who are keen to evolve the space even further. Please come by and say hello!

Collection Notice – 2023 student residential address and other information

The Australian Government Department of Education, Skills and Employment have requested that the College provides a statement of addresses and other information, in accordance with the Australian Education Regulation 2013 (Cth).

I have shared my first week as Principal at Sacred Heart with 405 new students across our campuses:

  • 346 students on Champagnat Campus including our new Year 7s,
  • 59 students on Marcellin Campus,
  • Inclusive of 45 new boarders; 23 new girl boarders and 22 new boy boarders from across SA and beyond.

I offer these students and indeed their families, a warm welcome to Sacred Heart College.

It is a great relief that we commence the 2023 school year free of the interruptions caused by COVID in recent years, to all students, but particularly our boarders. Given life is quickly returning to normal, so too will school life, with many events such as Parent Information Evenings and so on, back in full swing after years of interruptions.

Between events such as these, school sport, and perhaps school drop off and pick up, I look forward to meeting many parents in the not too distant future.

Finally, I offer my vote of thanks to the College Executive, the Leadership Teams and indeed all members of College staff, for their professionalism in preparing for the 2023 school year. I am certain it will be a terrific year.
