Hearts News – Thursday 29 August 2024 (Week 6 Term 3)

Sacred Heart College will be cheering on old scholar, Meg Lemon (SHOC ’07) over the next two weeks as she competes in cycling in the 2024 Paris Paralympics. All the best Meg!

To our Sacred Heart College community

A few weeks ago I wrote about the example that our Olympians set for our current students. Since that time, we have had dozens of successful sporting teams playing in grand finals, Intercol, or otherwise wrapping up our winter sports season. However, it is far more than being about sport. People who are at the top of their fields provide an impetus for our students to grow, aspire, work hard, and invest in themselves in whatever their chosen pursuit is.

Meg Lemon (SHOC ‘07) is competing in cycling in the upcoming Paralympics, having also represented Australia at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics where she achieved a bronze medal. As well as being an extraordinary example for our current students, Meg is a sports dietitian and cycling coach, and holds a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Flinders University. The entire Hearts community wish you well, Meg, and look forward to seeing your achievements in the coming weeks.

Daniel Head
Deputy Principal

Welcome to our Fijian visitors

On Monday we welcomed a group of 12 students and eight staff members from Marist Champagnat Institute (MCI) in Suva, Fiji, who arrived in Adelaide for a 10-day Immersion experience with the Sacred Heart College community. MCI is one of the communities visited by Sacred Heart on our annual Fiji Immersion trip, and therefore, this inaugural MCI Immersion group marks a special milestone in the relationship between SHC and MCI. Over the 10 day visit, MCI students will be hosted for five nights by students from the 2023 or 2024 SHC Fiji Immersion groups.

On Tuesday, the Fijian students and staff members performed a traditional welcoming ceremony with Kava, a ground root found in the Pacific Islands. MCI and SHC students enjoyed the opportunity to bond over lunch and reignite friendships formed during the 2023 Fiji Immersion trip.

Over the 10 day trip, Fijian staff and students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in life at Sacred Heart, visiting both Marcellin and Champagnat campuses. On Friday night, the Hearts community will gather for the Immersions Quiz Night to raise funds for the Marist communities in Fiji and the Philippines, the same communities that the Sacred Heart Immersions teams will be visiting later this year in November.

Walking a Mile

In a powerful display of solidarity with those experiencing homelessness, Marcellin and Champagnat Campuses staff and students participated in Walk A Mile and a Walk-a-thon during National Homelessness Week.

At Champagnat Campus, staff and students demonstrated their dedication through a mini Walk-a-thon. Using the treadmill in the Conditioning Room, student and staff volunteers walked throughout the day, turning their collective effort into a fundraising event for homelessness awareness. This creative approach allowed participants to contribute to the cause while gaining insight into the endurance required to address homelessness.

At Marcellin Campus, the annual involvement in the Hutt St Centre’s Walk a Mile in My Boots event saw Marcellin Campus students and staff gathering at 6.45am last Friday morning. The participants embarked on a mile-long walk beginning at the McAteer Centre, proceeding down the esplanade to the Broadway Kiosk and back. This walk was not just a physical journey but also an opportunity for participants to reflect on the daily struggles faced by those without stable housing. The event followed a night of ‘sleeping rough’ in the gym as part of the Vinnies Winter Sleepout, which provided students with a glimpse into the harsh realities of homelessness.

Students from Years 10-12 joined in, including members of the Game Changers, MSol team, and Student Leaders, who showed strong support for the cause. The walk, undertaken in cold and windy conditions, symbolised the long distances many homeless individuals travel daily in search of essentials. Participants were encouraged to contribute winter items, such as blankets, beanies, and socks, to support the Hutt St Centre. The response was generous, with over 70 pairs of socks, 29 beanies, 20 blankets, and more collected, showcasing the community’s commitment to making a difference.

Both campuses exemplified how communities can come together to support those in need, fostering empathy and understanding through their respective events. The efforts of Sacred Heart College highlight the impact of collective action and compassion in addressing social issues.

Thank you to everyone involved for your generous contributions and support!

Sleeping Out for Homelessness

The St Vincent de Paul Society supports over 6,000 South Australians experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity. Each year, the Marcellin Campus MSol team, Game Changers, and student leaders participate in the Vinnies Winter Sleepout to better understand and raise awareness of the challenges faced by those who are homeless.

This year’s event took place on 16 August from 6pm to 7am in the McAteer Centre at Marcellin Campus. Students heard from a Vinnies guest speaker about the Society’s community work. The night included activities like an outdoor reflection, group discussions, and writing gratitude cards. A key highlight was the ‘Cross the Line’ activity, which challenged students to reflect on their assumptions and stereotypes about homelessness. Dinner featured ham and cheese toasties, and students enjoyed card games, badminton, and free time. They then set up their sleeping arrangements in the gym with yoga mats, sleeping bags, and pillows. Despite the discomfort, students appreciated the shelter of the gym roof during the thunderstorms on the night, recognising this as a privilege not available to those sleeping rough.

The Vinnies Winter Sleepout provided valuable insights into the daily challenges of homelessness and helped students gain a greater appreciation for their own privileges. The event also highlighted the importance of community support. Donations for Fred’s Van, a Vinnies initiative providing nightly meals, were collected, including over 50 cans of soup, vegetables, fruit, and tuna, as well as pancake mix, pasta, and muesli bars. Thank you to all who contributed.

Meet our 2024 Student Leaders – Year 12 Deputy Boarding Captains

This is the final week introducing our portfolio Student Leaders, who have taken part in a brief Q&A session so you can get to know them a little better. This week, we meet our 2024 Year 12 Deputy Boarding Captains, Jasmine Eramiha and Archie Jones.

Jasmine Eramiha
2024 Year 12 Deputy Boarding Captain

Archie Jones
2024 Year 12 Deputy Boarding Captain

  • Jasmine Eramiha, 2024 Year 12 Deputy Boarding Captain

What does leadership mean to you?
Leading by example and doing the basic things right. Everyone can be a leader even if they’re not wearing a badge. It’s about the people that can influence a crowd and get things done, and someone who can be committed and hard working towards any cause or issues that occur.

What does being a Marist Leader mean to you?
Being a Marist Leader is a privilege and something that represents Sacred Heart’s rich and long history. Being apart of that is most definitely something that needs to be taken with grace, pride, and influence, and in turn, being a good leader for the College.

What Marist characteristic do you resonate with the most and why?
Family Spirit because I am a boarder, and being part of the Boarding community is like being part of a second family. Being part of something like that is truly amazing.

What do you hope to achieve as a Leader this year?
I would like to make sure that everyone is happy, that everyone’s problems or concerns are addressed, and that people are able to speak up about things that they want changed, adjusted, or implemented into school this year. I want to achieve this as a leader, and also as a cohort – with everyone’s voice being heard.

A teacher that I admire at SHC is:
Mr Bryan McKeough. He is hard working, straight to the point, and is a great teacher. He is always there when someone needs help, and is always good to have a chat to.

The best thing about attending SHC is:
As a boarder, life here is more than just school, and for some boarders it’s all we’ve ever known. But the meaning of “school” changes when you attend Sacred Heart, especially as a boarder. As someone who came from a poor education system in a rural area with limited access, and small schools, it really is an adjustment but I wouldn’t change for the world.

Three words that describe my personality are:
    Caring, loving and kind.

    My favourite song is:
    ‘To be loved’ by Adele.

    My favourite book is:
‘How to train you dragon’ by Cressida Cowell.

    Someone I admire is:
    Adele, the singer.

In my spare time, I like to:
Sleep, go to the beach, and hang out with friends.

    My greatest sporting moment:
Being in the Eyre Netball Academy team and also winning Sports Day 2 years in a row!

What is your most prized possession?
    Me!

What is on your bucket list?
    Swimming with sharks.

What skill would you most like to learn?
    How to fix a car.

If you were a superhero, who would you be?
    The Tom Holland Spiderman.

  • Archie Jones, 2024 Year 12 Deputy Boarding Captain

What does leadership mean to you?
The chance to represent the boarders in the wider school community and to listen to the ideas of others to make the Boarding House a better place.

What does being a Marist Leader mean to you?
Following in the footsteps of Mary and demonstrating the five Marist characteristics – Presence, Simplicity, Family Spirit, Love of Work and In the way of Mary.

What Marist characteristic do you resonate with the most and why?
Family Spirit as it is a crucial value to demonstrate in the Boarding House, especially as a leader.

What do you hope to achieve as a Leader this year?
To ensure the Boarding House is the best place it can possibly be.

A teacher that I admire at SHC is:
Mrs Becc Bond because she always remains positive and strives for the best from everyone.

The best thing about attending SHC is:
    The culture.

Three words that describe my personality are:
    Happy, kind and caring.

    My favourite song is:
    ‘Diamonds’ by Rhianna.

    My favourite book is:
‘Menace: The Autobiography’ by Dennis Lillee.

    Someone I admire is:
    My parents.

In my spare time, I like to:
Playing footy or cricket, and hanging out with my mates.

    My greatest sporting moment:
    Marist Carnival win.

What is your most prized possession?
    My friends and family.

What is on your bucket list?
    Skydiving.

What skill would you most like to learn?
    Boxing.

If you were a superhero, who would you be?
    Superman.

Feast of the Assumption Mass (Champagnat)

Last Friday, Champagnat Campus gathered to celebrate Mass for the Feast of the Assumption with Fr Justin. This liturgical celebration highlighted Mary’s assumption into heaven and the fact that she was the first and most faithful disciple of her son, Jesus.

Following Mass, ‘Mary’ (Hannah, Champagnat Campus Captain) and ‘Jesus’ (Archer, Champagnat Campus Captain), quizzed the students about their knowledge of ‘famous Marys’. Those named Mary were also honoured at this event.

Taking the plunge for Puddle Jumpers

During Terms 2 and 3, the MSol group at Marcellin Campus spearheaded a new initiative called ‘The Adelaide City Plunge’. This involved a team of two student leaders and two staff members abseiling 25 floors down the Intercontinental Building on North Terrace. The team, known as the ‘Heart Beats’, and consisting of Nick Macgregor, Melanie Scott, Ella Davies, and Indi Podger, aimed to raise $3,400 for Puddle Jumpers Inc., an Adelaide-based nonprofit supporting vulnerable children and young people.

In Term 2, MSol’s first fundraising event allowed students to vote for the staff member they wanted to see take the Plunge. Each dollar donated counted as one vote, leading to Mr Macgregor and Ms Scott being selected. Additionally, a BBQ fundraiser sold 250 sausages and 100 cans of soft drink, raising over $870 towards the goal.

Last week, MSol students and Year 12 Game Changers baked and sold sweet treats, including cupcakes, brownies, and cookies, which sold out quickly and raised $330 towards the cause. Staff and students also contributed by busking around the school during lunch breaks.

On Saturday, Nick, Melanie, Ella, and Indi bravely took the plunge, descending an impressive 75 metres down the Intercontinental building. The adrenaline was pumping and all members of the Heart Bearts team were ecstatic upon completing the Plunge, with Indi Podger noting, “My cheeks were hurting because I was smiling so much!”

Thank you to everyone who attended, generously donated, or supported the fundraising efforts. Special thanks to Mission Captain, Ella Davies for her dedication and efforts in organising this initiative, which surpassed its fundraising goal, reaching a total of $3,795!

If you would like to donate to the Plunge Initiative to support the works of Puddle Jumpers in the community, donations can still be made through the ‘Heart Beats’ team fundraising page.

Year 9 students roll into action with Novita Wheelie-Net program

As we gear up for the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, our Year 9 students had an exciting opportunity to participate in the Novita Wheelie-Net program, an engaging wheelchair basketball experience. This program was part of their Health unit, focusing on equality, inclusion, and diversity in sport.

The students learned about the challenges and skills required to play basketball while using a wheelchair. It was a hands-on way to explore the importance of inclusion and to understand the experiences of individuals with disabilities. The program emphasised that everyone, regardless of physical ability, can participate in and enjoy sports.

The event was not only fun, but educational, helping students develop empathy and a deeper understanding of diversity in sports and everyday life.

We thank Novita, and presenter, Michael Neroni, who provided an amazing experience and opportunity for our students.

Doing good quietly: SHC and MCI, Fiji volunteer with Treasure Boxes

On Tuesday, students from the Year 12 Game Changers group spent their morning volunteering for the local not-for-profit organisation, Treasure Boxes. The Game Changers were also joined by 12 students and three staff members from the visiting Fijian Immersion group who have travelled over from the Marist Champagnat Institute (MCI) in Suva, Fiji.

Throughout the morning, the Game Changers and Fijian students worked together to complete various tasks in the Treasure Boxes warehouses, such as sorting through donated toys, categorising donated clothing, checking sets of board games, puzzles and lego to ensure there were no missing pieces, and putting new nappies into bundles. This was an excellent opportunity for the SHC and MCI students to get to know each other better and share in the ministry experience together.

Treasure Boxes creates personalised care packages, or “treasure boxes,” for babies, children, teens, and families in crisis. Each package is thoughtfully tailored by gender and age, and includes clothing for a year (both summer and winter outfits), essential hygiene items, and age-appropriate toys or games.

For both schools, engaging in ministry is an integral aspect of living out our Marist tradition. As Marists, we join St Marcellin Champagnat in modelling our qualities and actions on those shown by Mary, and in doing so, we strive to do good quietly, dedicating ourselves to serving others and showing compassion to all we encounter.

Marcellin CEA Music Ensembles Tour

On Monday, the Marcellin Music Ensembles travelled to three different schools on their 2024 Music Tour. Ensembles were able to perform at Stella Maris Parish School, Brighton Primary School and St Mary’s Memorial School. The students performed with such enthusiasm and passion, and the students at each school loved hearing them and watching them perform.

2024 Music Camp

Last weekend (Saturday, 24 and Sunday, 25 August) our Champagnat and Marcellin Music students were involved in a Music ‘Day’ Camp weekend. The Senior CEA Music Ensembles were involved in intensive rehearsals throughout each day. It was a great time of team building and making music together.

Three of the Champagnat Music Ensembles, Vocal Harmony, Concert Band and Super Band, were involved on the Saturday, collaborating with the senior school students in combined ensembles, creating a sense of a whole school community.

Students were rewarded for their hard work with fun games and activities, including Giant Connect Four, Giant Jenga, Corn Hole, Table Tennis and everyone’s favourite, Laser Tag.

There was a positive vibe throughout the entire weekend. We look forward to next year’s Music Camp!

Ensembles perform at Marion Church of Christ

On Sunday, 25 August, Sacred Heart’s Music ensembles were invited to perform at the Marion Church of Christ BBQ community event. This was a great opportunity for our music students to display their amazing musical talents to the Marion Church of Christ community, and also to represent Sacred Heart College. All of our ensembles performed for a very appreciative and captive audience. Congratulations to all on a wonderful performance!

Music Tutors celebrated

We are pleased to announce that two of our instrumental tutors, Neil Christopher and Vanessa Saba, were recently awarded the Don Burrows Award for Recognition of Long Service for Music Tutors.

Neil has been a part of music at Sacred Heart since 2003. He started at the Senior School (now Marcellin Campus) and then a couple of years later, also worked at the Middle School (now Champagnat Campus). Neil is dedicated to providing engaging guitar tuition that suits all guitar students, no matter their interest. He runs a number of ensembles such as Guitar Bands and Rock Bands, and always finds a way to include and challenge students, regardless of their abilities.

Vanessa has been a part of music at Sacred Heart since 1999. She first started out at Marymount and then continued her work when the College amalgamated into Sacred Heart Middle School. Vanessa is dedicated to providing engaging woodwind and brass tuition that caters to a wide range of students – some of her students work towards AMEB exams, whilst others are engaged through learning more popular music. Vanessa runs our Concert Band which performs at various school and community events, including ABODA. In the last few years, Vanessa has also supported our classroom music teachers in delivering an engaging beginner band program by leading class ensembles and providing small group lessons.

We are so grateful to have such dedicated and passionate instrumental tutors here at Sacred Heart who support our students to reach their full potential. Congratulations to both!

Girls Sports

As we conclude another exciting winter sports season, we are proud to reflect on the outstanding performances and achievements of our girls’ teams across the College. Here’s a summary of the highlights from this season’s competitions.

Marcellin Girls Sport

It’s been a massive two weeks for girls’ sport at Sacred Heart Marcellin!

It started with the announcement that our First XV1 footballers would be playing their grand final on Adelaide Oval. The team took this in their stride and demonstrated their skill with an emphatic win by 58 points over St Michaels. The team now turns their attention to their Open Knockout grand final against Henely on Tuesday, 3 September at Woodville Oval.

Thursday, 15 August saw our Volleyballers take to the court in their first ever appearance at the SA Volleyball Schools Championships. The team was made up of five Year 11 and three Year 9 students competing in the Year 11 division. The team was outstanding over the three day event, dropping only 1 set across all their matches, and coming away with the Gold medal over Reynella East High School, 2 sets to nil. The team then went on to complete the first round of Open Knockout undefeated and now set their sights on the Statewide Knockout Championship to be held on Thursday, 12 September.

Saturday morning (17 August) kicked off with our First XI Soccer team taking on St Ignatius. Throughout the regular rounds the team hadn’t managed to get over St Ignatius with a loss and a draw. With one goal in mind, to walk away as victors, claiming back-to-back premierships, the team showed what is meant to wear the Hearts kit and come away with an amazing 6 – 3 victory.

Netball grand finals were also a feature with our Open As taking on St Michaels at St Michaels. Hampered with injury in the weeks leading into finals all players really stepped up and took it to St Michael’s with numerous lead changes throughout the game. Unfortunately it was not Sacred Heart’s day, with the team going down by 2 points. Next up was our 10A1 team who played Kildare at Sacred Heart with our girls taking control from the first whistle and coming away with a convincing 22 point win. With another four grand finals being played on the Brighton Road courts, the Hearts came away with an additional two premierships and two runners up:

2024 Premiers:

  • Open B1 – SHC 3 (23) def Mercedes (17)
  • Open C2 – SHC (42) def Loreto (11)

Runners Up:

  • Year 10 B1 – SHC (18) def by Cabra (28)
  • Open C1 – SHC (18) def by St Dominic’s (25)

Champagnat Girls Sport

Netball

Out of the 22 Champagnat netball teams that competed in the SACCSGSA competition, an impressive 19 teams secured spots in the top 4, with 10 of those teams advancing to the grand finals. We extend our congratulations to the following Champagnat teams:

Premiers:

  • 7A1 – SHC 1 (38) def St Michael’s (30)
  • Year 7B1 – SHC 3 (26) def by Gleeson (20)
  • 7C2 – SHC 8 (12) def Loreto (8)
  • 8B1 – SHC 2 (37) def Marryatville (24)

Runners Up:

  • Year 7B2 – SHC 4 (22) def by St Aloysius (34)
  • Year 8 B2 – SHC 4 (19) def by St Aloysius (26)
  • Year 8C1 – SHC 6 (19) def by Cardijn 3 (23)
  • Year 8C2 – SHC 7 (11) def by Cabra 3 (17)
  • Year 9B2 – SHC 3 (19) def by Cardijn 2 (29)
  • Year 9C1 – SHC 5 (14) def by Loreto 2 (31)

Additionally, our Year 7/8 Statewide Knockout team competed in the finals round in the Statewide Competition. Competing at the Netball SA Stadium yesterday, they earned a commendable 4th place overall.

Football

The Middle A Girls Football team enjoyed an undefeated season and secured a victory in their semi-final against Immanuel College. They are now set to compete in the grand final next Friday afternoon at Champagnat Campus. This team has also advanced to Round 2 of the Statewide Knockout competition and will face Golden Grove High School and Trinity College next Thursday.

Our Middle B Girls Football team, comprising  Year 7/8 students, finished their season in an admirable 3rd place overall. Despite facing tough competition in a combined A/B pool, the girls consistently gave their best effort each week. They demonstrated significant growth in skills, physical resilience, and gameplay throughout the season, all while showing excellent camaraderie and support for one another.

Soccer

The Middle A Girls Soccer team displayed remarkable determination and grit throughout the season. They secured 3rd place after the minor round matches. In the semi-final, they faced a narrow defeat to Loreto in a penalty shootout (8-7). In the 3rd place playoff against Norwood International High School, the team staged a comeback but ultimately fell short by 1 goal, finishing in 4th place overall. The teamwork, tenacity, camaraderie, and drive of this team is truly commendable.

The Year 7/8 Girls Soccer Knockout team competed in round 2 of the Statewide Competition last Thursday. They delivered a strong performance against Seaview, creating several scoring opportunities and securing a 3-0 victory. Despite their efforts, they faced a formidable Henley team that proved too strong on the day.

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Girls Sports Program throughout the winter season. We would like to thank those staff members and students who took the time out of their weekend to attend one or more of these games. Your support didn’t go unnoticed and was definitely appreciated by all the students that played. We are committed to growing the support for our girls’ sports programs and look forward to seeing more of the Hearts community cheering on our teams in the future.

2024 101st Intercollegiate Round

This year saw Sacred Heart College and Rostrevor compete in the 101st Intercollegiate Round. Hosted by Rostrevor College, students competed in Basketball, Football, Soccer, Squash, Table Tennis and Chess. It was a great week of close competition and a true display of the event motto of ‘respect outweighs rivalry’.

The week began with our Middle A, Second, and First XI Soccer teams traveling to Campbelltown Soccer Club. Despite the wet weather, our dedicated Hearts supporters made the commute to cheer on the boys. The Middle A team put up a strong fight, working through various plays, but Rostrevor proved too strong, securing a 6-1 win. The Second XI battled through the challenging conditions, but Rostrevor again emerged victorious with a 3-1 win. This set the stage for the First XI match. The team had plenty of possession and pushed Rostrevor closely in the first half. However, the game opened up in the second half, with Rostrevor taking the lead and ultimately winning the Intercol soccer trophy with a 4-1 victory.

Wednesday at Norwood Oval kicked off with the Second XVIII playing through a rain-soaked match. Despite the weather, they displayed impressive team cohesion and pride, dominating the game and securing a commanding 81-point victory. Later that evening, a sea of blue filled the northern end of the oval for the First XVIII Football game. Both Sacred Heart and Rostrevor College were fired up, eager to bring energy to the crowd, and the first half proved to be a tight contest. After a steady third quarter, Sacred Heart pushed on to a strong finish. Both teams had multiple shots on goal, but the Sacred Heart boys managed to send most of their scores through the middle. In the end, the Jan Baldwin Cup was presented to Sacred Heart Acting Captain, Lucas Camporeale, who was also awarded the MVP medal for the match.

Our First V basketball team headed to Lightsview Sports and Community Centre on Thursday evening, where a large crowd filled the stadium. The atmosphere was buzzing, and the game was a nail-biter. Rostrevor maintained an early lead for most of the match, but our boys kept pace and took control in the final quarter. Patrick Noell stood out, grabbing strong defensive rebounds whenever possible. Sacred Heart managed to hold on for a thrilling 39-38 victory. Hugh Strachan was awarded MVP of the match.

Earlier in the evening, the Middle A1 and Open B teams took the stage. Both teams displayed commendable determination, strength, and strategic gameplay. The Middle As remained competitive throughout all four quarters and despite narrowly missing a win, their persistence and tenacious performance was inspirational. Meanwhile, the Open B team achieved a strong victory, defeating Rostrevor 59-37. This was a fantastic way to end the season for our Hearts basketballers.

Friday featured a variety of exciting competitions, with Squash taking place at the ARC Campbelltown, and Chess and Table Tennis at Rostrevor College. In Squash, Joey Mangeruca stood out with an exceptional performance, earning the MVP medal, and leading Sacred Heart College to a 7-3 victory. Chess made its debut in Intercol, which was a fantastic addition to the event. Saanvi Nalla was a key player for the SHC Chess team, securing the MVP medal, though Rostrevor College dominated the chess matches, winning 8-2. In Table Tennis, Akash Jain and Tyler Gierke shone for our Middle Table Tennis teams, both being awarded MVP medals for their impressive play.

Saturday marked the final day of Intercol, with four soccer teams, four basketball teams, and eight football teams competing at Rostrevor College grounds. We commend all our students for representing the College with such pride and respect. For many, it was their first taste of Intercol, and each team delivered outstanding performances, showing determination in every contest and all round sportsmanship.

A big thank you to all Hearts supporters who attended the Intercol events this year and got behind our teams to help them over the line. It is always great to see familiar faces supporting the Blue & Blue, and we look forward to seeing you again in 2025 when we take over as hosts of the 102nd Intercollegiate Round.

Catholic Girls Athletics Carnival

Our female athletes participated in the A Grade Catholic Girls Athletics Carnival at the SA Athletics Stadium. The team, consisting of 34 students across Years 7-12, delivered several impressive results in both track and field events, leading Sacred Heart to victory in the U16 age group shield and securing third place overall with a total of 1319.8 points.

The relay events were a standout, where the girls demonstrated their sprinting prowess. Sacred Heart claimed first place in the U15, U16, and Open Relays, and earned third place in the U13 and U14 Relays.

We congratulate Chantelle McAneney (Year 12), Brooke Hayball (Year 11), Lottie Watson-Haigh (Year 10), Matilda Buchanan (Year 9) and Scarlett Axon (Year 9) who were selected to compete in the Open 100m Championship Race, featuring the top 10 timed 100m race results from the day. Matilda Buchanan delivered an impressive performance, crossing the finish line in first place.

Congratulations to all the female athletes who participated! We also express our gratitude to the student and staff helpers, as well as the parents and family members who came out to show their support.
