The Year 12 Class of 2025 shared a special night making memories and celebrating their final year of schooling together at the Year 12 Formal on 20 June.
To our Sacred Heart College community
I trust all students have enjoyed the first week of the school holidays, while staff have engaged in a full week of professional learning and development, concluding tomorrow with a joint whole-staff formation session in collaboration with Cardijn College. I once again wish all families a restful, safe and enjoyable break over the next two weeks, and I look forward to welcoming all students back for Term 3 on Monday 21 July.

Year 12 Formal
The Year 12 Formal, held on Friday 20 June, embraced the theme Illuminate and offered a memorable opportunity for the Class of 2025 to come together in celebration of their journey so far. It was a joy to see our students dressed to impress, enjoying a night of laughter, music, and shared achievement. Bella, Lexi, Imogen, Connor and Ed are to be commended for their outstanding musical performances, which set the tone for the evening and saw everyone hit the dance floor.
We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge that events such as these do not occur without much preparation and planning, and we thank the dedicated staff who made the event possible – both those who worked behind the scenes to coordinate the evening and those who gave their time to supervise and support our students on the night. Events like these are a testament to the strength of our school community and the spirit of celebration that defines this final year of schooling.

What does leadership mean to you?
Helping your community whereever and however you can. I believe that leadership means to have responsibility and hold yourself accountable, along with being selfless. To be a leader you must be resilient and listen to your peers and be willing to give your time to help.
What does being a Marist Leader mean to you?
To me, being a Marist Leader means to be present at school, always engaging in conversations, opportunities and work. Along with this, demonstrating Family Spirit in your day to day life, and simply just showing up is what it means to me to be a Marist Leader.
What Marist characteristic do you resonate with the most and why?
I believe I resonate mostly with the Marist Characteristics of Presence and Simplicity. I believe this as I will always show up if asked, and am present in the community. I also portray the characteristic of Simplicity as I like to keep my life simple, and I am happy with what I have. I believe you don’t have to have the best things, or the busiest life, however you just have to show up as yourself and be present.
What do you hope to achieve as a Leader this year?
As one of the Boarding Leaders, I would like to achieve a sense of Family Spirit within the Boarding House. I want everyone to feel comfortable and welcome in their second ‘home’, and I want to do anything I can to make everyone, especially the new boarders, feel at home.

If you were a superhero, who would you be?
I would be Aquagirl if I were a superhero because I love the water.
- Jake Mahar, 2025 Year 12 Deputy Boarding Captain
What does leadership mean to you?
To me leadership means setting an example, ensuring the wellbeing of fellow boarders. It involves being a role model to the younger students, being approachable and helping to create a positive and inclusive enviroment in the Boarding House and at school.
What does being a Marist Leader mean to you?
As a Marist Leader, I think you need to embody the values of Humility, Simplicity and Presence, following the example of St Marcellin Champagnat. Leadership in this role is about serving others while fostering a strong sense of Family Spirit.
What Marist characteristic do you resonate with the most and why?
Simplicity, which is is about being true to who you are and leading with honesty and strong morals. It means treating everyone with the same respect and kindness, regardless of their background or past. As a leader I strive to stay humble and treat everyone with respect, stay postive during challenges and be a reliable and approachable person, ensuring nobody feels left out.
What do you hope to achieve as a Leader this year?
This year I hope to create an extremely inclusive enviroment where every boarder feels valued. I aim to promote friendships accross all year levels and encourage confidence in the younger boarders.

Year 9 girls inspired at Young Women in STEM excursion
Last Wednesday, a group of Year 9 students from Sacred Heart College attended the Women in STEM event at the University of Adelaide, a day designed to inspire and encourage young women to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and maths.
The day included keynote speakers, hands-on workshops and problem-solving activities. Highlights for our students were the veterinary science workshop, where they learnt how to bandage horse legs, deliver a lamb, and provide CPR to dogs. One of the other popular workshops was an interesting challenge that explored what it would take for humans to live and survive on Mars, and included the students designing the ‘ultimate space plant’.
It was a fantastic experience that gave students a real insight into the possibilities STEM has to offer. Thank you to the University of Adelaide for hosting us.
Giving back to the community – The Athlete’s Foot School Rewards Program

We extend our sincere thanks to all Sacred Heart College families who supported the College by purchasing school shoes through The Athlete’s Foot as part of the School Rewards Program. Thanks to this initiative, our community has helped raise $600 for the College over the past year with every $5 spent going back to the College.
This generous donation, made possible by families who registered and shopped at the Athlete’s Foot, was recently presented to Champagnat Campus by The Athlete’s Foot Marion Store Manager, Bel Wright. Our Campus Captains, Logan and Laura, gratefully accepted the cheque on behalf of the College.
We are grateful for the continued partnership between Sacred Heart and The Athlete’s Foot, and we thank our families for choosing to support initiatives that directly benefit our school. For more information about the School Rewards Program, visit The Athlete’s Foot website.
Our Hearts students innovate with Hydrogen Power
Last Friday, a team of five Year 9 Sacred Heart College students proudly represented the College at the South Australian Hydrogen Grand Prix (H2GP), competing against 18 other schools in a fast-paced day of innovation, endurance and problem-solving.
The H2GP is a STEM-based program that challenges students to design, build and race hydrogen-powered model cars. As part of a global initiative, the program aims to equip students with skills in engineering, sustainability and teamwork, while encouraging creative thinking around clean energy solutions.
Our students began their H2GP journey back in Term 4 last year. Since then, they’ve dedicated countless hours to learning how hydrogen fuel cell technology works, trialling designs, testing prototypes, and refining their car in preparation for race day. It certainly hasn’t been without its setbacks, from mechanical glitches to tight timelines, but the team met every challenge head-on.
Throughout the process, they’ve deepened their understanding of science and engineering, while building valuable teamwork, communication and real-world problem-solving skills. Well done to Elliot, Laurence (who was unfortunately absent on race day), Aston, Jarvis and Thomas for all your hard work across the project. Thanks also to Will for stepping in on the day to fill in for Laurence. A huge thank you also to Dan Forde for his leadership and support. His guidance was key in helping the team get to the start line with a working car and the confidence to compete.
While we didn’t crack the top 10, the experience, and achievement of simply getting the car on the track is something the team should be incredibly proud of. Well done!

Music News
Showcasing the talent of our young musicians at the Champagnat Instrumental & Vocal Soirée
On Monday 23 June, the Good Samaritan Centre at Champagnat Campus came alive with the sound of music for our Years 7–9 Instrumental and Vocal Soirée, the first in a series of three concerts this year.
The evening showcased an incredible range of musical styles and talents, from contemporary Top 40 hits performed by charismatic soloists, complete with backup singers and dancers, to elegant renditions of Chopin piano sonatas. The audience was treated to lively brass big band numbers, musical theatre favourites performed by clarinetists, and sweet, lyrical melodies from our flautists.
With performers ranging from beginners to advanced musicians, and a wonderfully supportive audience of family and friends, the event was a true celebration of creativity, courage and community. A huge thank you goes to our dedicated instrumental tutors, whose expertise and guidance are the foundation of our vibrant school music program. Beyond teaching technical skills, they inspire confidence, creativity, and a deep understanding of music, helping shape our well-rounded young musicians.
The second evening in this series will take place in Week 2 next term, again featuring our Years 7 to 9 musicians. We look forward to seeing you there for an inspiring evening of music!

Our girls take home their Football Premierships!
Open A Premiership winners
Our First XVI Girls Football team has claimed their third consecutive grand final victory, capping off an undefeated season with a dominant 8.6.54 to 0.2.2 win!
Despite the early loss of Kelis due to a head clash, the team rallied brilliantly, each player stepping up and contributing to a well-rounded and disciplined performance. The group’s composure under pressure, clean ball movement, and relentless pressure around the contest highlighted the elite level of skill and teamwork they have built throughout the season.
This victory is a testament not only to the 20 players who took to the field in the grand final, but to every member of our senior girls football squad. Their commitment, support, and competition at training have driven high standards and created a culture of accountability and unity.
Congratulations to Molly Petersen, who was awarded Player of the Match for her outstanding impact across the ground. Another historic season for our girls – three years, three premierships!
Middle A Premiership winners
Congratulations to the Middle A Girls Football team who took home the Middle A Premiership last week in a strong performance against St St Michael’s College. From the opening bounce, the SHC girls brought great determination and energy to the field. They attacked the ball with confidence, moved it well through the midfield, and applied relentless defensive pressure that kept the opposition on the back foot throughout the game.
Every player contributed to the team’s success, displaying excellent effort, teamwork, and commitment. Their hard work was rewarded with a convincing 39 point win over St Michael’s, securing the premiership shield. It was a well earned result and a fitting way to cap off an impressive undefeated season.
Congratulations again to all the players on an outstanding season, and sincere thanks to our coaches and parents/caregivers for their ongoing support. Go Hearts!
School Sport SA Statewide Knockout Year 7/8 Basketball Finals
Our Year 7/8 Girls and Boys Basketball teams recently competed in the finals of the School Sport SA Statewide Basketball Championships. Across a series of close and hard fought matches, both teams displayed outstanding composure, resilience, and teamwork under pressure, earning their place in the grand finals.
The girls took on Cabra College in a tightly contested match, with just a one point difference at half time. Cabra gained momentum in the third quarter, building a lead that proved difficult to overcome. Despite our girls’ continued intensity and best efforts, they were defeated 41–25, taking home a well-deserved silver medal.
The boys, meanwhile, delivered a dominant and confident performance in their grand final against Woodville High School. Their determination, hustle, and commitment were evident across the court as they consistently applied defensive pressure, attacked the basket with purpose, and controlled the tempo of the game. Their efforts were rewarded with an impressive victory, securing the gold medal defeating Woodville 69 – 41.
Congratulations to both teams on their outstanding achievements. A special thank you to coaches Danyle Pearce (Boys) and Ella Sawyer (Girls), as well as the parents/caregivers and staff who came along to support.
