The annual game against Assumption was born in friendly rivalry between Sacred Heart College coach, Br. Domus (Ron Hogan) and his brother, Br Calixtus (Kevin Hogan) who coached the senior side at Assumption College.
The first exchange took place in late August 1957, when Sacred Heart travelled by overland train to Melbourne and then to Assumption by bus. Since that time the ACK-SHC Exchange has been an annual event.
Initially, the only competitive event in the weekend was the football match between the First XVIII's. In 1966 for the first time, an intercollegiate debate was held. With the advent of the 1980's, both Colleges were fully co-ed, subsequently netball, boys soccer, basketball and music were added to the Exchange program. The 1990's saw girls basketball and hockey included. In 2004 girls soccer was introduced and in 2014 athletics became part of the Exchange.
Assumption College and Sacred Heart College are proud to be part of this wonderful Exchange, bringing together our school communities with nearly 250 students participating. In 2018 we celebrate an amazing milestone, 62 years of friendly competition in the Marist Spirit!
