VET & General Assembly

On Wednesday, Marcellin Campus staff and students gathered in the Marist Hall, Br McAteer Centre for the Term 3 VET & General Assembly. As part of the assembly, we recognised our current Year 12 VET students who will by the end of the year, achieve a full or partial certificate in their chosen field and students from other year levels who have or are on track to obtain a Level III Certificate this year.

Every week, over 180 Sacred Heart College students participate in a VET learning pathway that is valued by employers and is responsive to the changing nature of work across the state’s economy. Many of the occupations and skills identified as being in shortage over the next five years are in sectors that students can commence their training in while still in school through the College’s VET Program.

Congratulations to all students who have completed their Certificate II or III across a range of different industries and a special congratulations to Kate Perry who was awarded Year 12 VET Student of the Year!

Oliphant Science Awards 2021

The 2021 Oliphant Science Awards were finalised this week. This award is an annually held competition for South Australian school students from Reception to Year 12 and recognises the excellent work of students with prizes in each age group and category.

We acknowledge the following students for their entries; Aryan Lamsal and his entry of a working windmill, Jordan Khabwari with his invention of an automated combination lock opener, and Xavier O’Laughlin with his World War 2 diorama featuring working electrical circuits and LED lighting to highlight battle scenes. All students built their inventions and models from scratch and spent many hours problem solving and constructing their projects.

Congratulations to all students!

Child Protection Matter

It has come to the College’s attention that a former volunteer at our school has been charged with maintaining unlawful sexual relations with a child. The accused person, Mr Deng (Peter) Chuor, was associated with Sacred Heart College (Senior) during the period 2010 – 2013.

The alleged victim was not a student at this school and the allegations do not relate to his time at the College. The alleged offence is said to have occurred in 2005-2009. Earlier today, the families at the College during this period were informed of this by email. If you would like a copy of the correspondence please contact the College.

Marist Day “Beating as one Heart”

Earlier in the year, the College students leaders from years 7-12 came together for a day of formation and planning. From the wisdom of our leaders came the proposal for a College-wide ‘Marist Day’ which would be driven and facilitated by students with the purpose of strengthening relationships between students in their House across both campuses.

The 2021 Marist Day will be held on Friday 24 September at Marcellin Campus from 845.am – 1.00pm. Students will participate in a College wide Liturgy focussing on the theme of “Beating as one Heart”, enjoy a Villis ‘Hearts’ donut together in House groups, before engaging in House activities. The day will conclude with an assembly and announcement of 2022 Year 9 and 12 leaders.

At the core of our Marist mission is the need to be a presence to those most in need. To this end, students are encouraged to make a donation of $10.00 towards our Marist immersion communities in India, Sri Lanka, Fiji and the Philippines via our Marist Day Mission Appeal. In the Personal Message section, please include the student’s Campus, and Homeroom (eg. Champagnat Chanel C). Prizes will be awarded to the individual and Homeroom who raise the most funds.

Students will be required to wear their PE uniform on the day and bring a bottle of water with them. Champagnat students will gather and be dismissed from the Main Oval, and Marcellin students will gather and be dismissed from Homeroom.

Further Campus specific information will be communicated in the coming weeks.

Leave

In Term 1, 2020 I attempted to take a term’s Long Service Leave. This was cut short by the COVID-19 case at the College on Friday 13 March! Sacred Heart College won the gold medal for being the first school in the nation to be impacted by COVID!

I will be on leave from today and will return for our final term. During my absence our very capable Mrs Shana Bennett will be the Principal.

Wishing all Fathers, Grandfathers and other significant father figures a Happy Father’s Day!
