Mission Update

In the past week, the area of Mission has been very busy with a diverse range of activities and events taking place. On Monday, members of the Year 10 Game Changers group assisted with the Caritas Fun Run, which saw approximately 300 enthusiastic children from St Martin de Porres, St Bernadette’s, St Anthony’s, Emmaus, McAuley and Stella Maris Parish schools gather to raise money for Project Compassion… We had a beautiful morning at Seacliff Beach, lots of fun and raised funds to support those in need.

On Monday afternoon, seven of our Year 12 Game Changers visited Puddle Jumpers, a not for profit organisation that assists vulnerable children and young people, most of whom do not live with their birth parents. Through volunteering in the warehouse, our Game Changers witness how the amazing work of some has such significant benefits to others.

On Wednesday, staff and students in Marian House at Marcellin gathered to celebrate the Eucharist in a beautiful outdoor ceremony on the small oval. The student leaders identified resilience as the theme, very timely considering the many challenges facing society at the moment.

On Thursday, the Champagnat Chanel House gathered in the Quad with Fr Joseph Raja for the first Mass of the year. The focus of the Mass was our 2022 Marist theme, ‘Known and Loved’. Senior students from Marcellin came to sing for this special occasion and everyone appreciated the opportunity to gather together in silence and prayer.

On Wednesday evening, MSol teams from both campuses gathered at Champagnat to hear from current paramedic Madeline Bollmeyer, who spoke openly about the current struggles facing an overloaded Health care system. Our students then prepared care packs with messages of gratitude, to be distributed to paramedics around the local area via their well-being coordinators. Big thanks to Liv Higgins and Cara McGlaughlin for their efforts in planning and coordinating the community night.

Finally, thank you to those in the Hearts community who have donated to our Project Compassion appeal for 2022. At the time of writing we are progressing well towards our goal of $2000… it’s not too late, if you would like to donate, please click on the link below. All donations over $2 are tax deductible.

So, as we continue to navigate the next COVID phase we will no longer be sending multiple notifications for ‘classroom’ contacts which I am sure that families will not miss! The hours and hours of work in preparing these has been very challenging and has added to already busy workloads for multiple staff members. I express gratitude for their work and to our sector leaders who have negotiated the changes with SA Health.

As we head towards Holy Week it is opportune to consider our blessings and good fortune that despite the inconveniences of our current context there are many other communities doing it significantly tougher.

Let’s all try to be the peacemakers and calming influences our world needs?

Kindly,

Steve Byrne
