Arts News (Friday 13 August)

To our Sacred Heart Community

Catholic Schools Music Festival

Congratulations to Abinav who has been selected to be a student compere at this year’s Catholic Schools Music Festival.

Following a nerve wracking process which included submitting a video as well as a live improvised audition, he has been selected to host two nights with an adult compere. Making the most of this opportunity, Abinav will get to work with the compere and Festival administrators on writing and delivering the dialogue for both nights. Congratulations Abinav and we wish you the best for this amazing experience.

Our Senior Drumline will also perform as a support-act at the festival on Wednesday night at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

Combined South-West Region Concert

The Combined South-West Region Concert featuring local parish schools and the Sacred Heart College Concert Band and SuperBand has been postponed after COVID-19 lockdowns at the start of Term 3. The new date is Thursday 26 August and we are hoping that restrictions will be lifted so that we can perform to an audience. We thank the student performers and parents for their ongoing flexibility and support of this event.

Marcellin Lunchtime Performances

We kicked off a series of Friday music lunchtimes with a Year 10 student-led ensemble, Guitar Band and Year 11 Class Band. In Week 5 we feature our two resident DJs. A great place to be at lunch time!

ABODA Band Competition

Moving to a video-entry for the second year, our Champagnat Concert Band and Marcellin’s Senior Drumline will record this submission by Week 8.

AMEB Results

Some of our instrumental students sit performance exams with the Australian Music Education Board throughout the year. Students practice music and technical exercises to perform and be marked on their achievement. Congratulations to the following students:

Caitlin Bailey: Grade 1 – A

Kate Poland:  Grade 2 – A

Senior Drama

Year 10 Drama students have enjoyed participating in a series of practical workshops with Corinna DiNiro from Stage Secrets, in preparation for their end of year Commedia Dell’Arte performance. Students have learnt about characterisation, in particular the different archetypes that belong to the world of Commedia, as well as the skills required for slapstick and choreographed stage combat.

Stage One Drama students have commenced work on their comedy unit, familiarising themselves with the principles of visual and physical comedy and deciding on their Group Performance text, Ian McWethy’s hilarious play, The Internet is Distract- Oh Look a Kitten! – to be performed in week 3 next term. And finally, the Stage 2 Drama class has been focused on their External Assessment Group Presentation task in response to Nick Enright’s iconic Australian play, Black Rock.

All Drama students are also excited to be attending State Theatre Company’s upcoming production of Finegan Kruckemeyer’s play, HIBERNATION.

Year 10 Visual Arts – Bone Drawings

The Year 10 Visual Arts students have been working at improving their drawing skills, by experimenting with a range of different drawing media and techniques. Students have been focusing on drawing still life arrangements and have completed some beautiful bone drawings.

There have been some absolutely lovely artworks completed showing depth and 3D form, and they have been put on display in the library.
