Champagnat Campus Academic & End of Year Awards Ceremony

This morning the high achieving Champagnat students were acknowledged at the concluding assembly for the year. Awards ranging from academic achievement, endeavour (commitment to study), the arts, sport, Christian Service and exemplary and outstanding contributions to the College were presented.

During this live streamed event due to COVID restrictions, we also conducted the student leadership handover ceremony. As the Campus Leaders of 2020 passed on the baton to the 2021 Leaders one could not help but be impressed by the calibre of the students prepared to serve the Champagnat Campus in this capacity.

We thank our special guests, Mr Paul Teisseire (College Council Chair) and the Marist Brothers for joining us. Br Jordan also invoked a prayer in remembrance of Mr Roger French who sadly passed away earlier this year.

Finally, congratulations to Harrison Wickers on being the Champagnat Award recipient for his extensive involvements in student leadership and the arts. He was recognised as the student who best typifies the Marist characteristics of our College.

Year 9 Rite of Passage (Thursday 3 December)

In light of COVID restrictions, the Rite of Passage was reconfigured and held on ‘The Small Oval’. The setting looked more like a festival gathering of some sort and the weather was most kind. By being outdoors and setting up as socially distanced we were able to have most families present, including both parents and caregivers.

The Testimonial presentations were projected on the large screen brought in for the event and following this the Rite Journey classes moved to their allocated areas across the campus for the ‘Homecoming Ceremonies’. As the groups dispersed and enacted the ritual there was a special ambience as the sun set.

It was tremendous to be able to celebrate this significant event with our Year 9 students who have had quite an adventure over the past few years with the establishment of the Champagnat Campus and the pandemic.

Regardless, they were encouraged to consider the concept of their life as a ‘quest’!

‘A quest of any kind is an heroic journey. It is a rite of passage that carries you to an inner place of silence and majesty and encourages you to live life more courageously and genuinely. (Denise Linn, Author)

Congratulations to the future graduating Class of 2023!

Sacred Heart College Curriculum Extension Activities (CEA) Nominations 2021

A final reminder that CEA Nominations for 2021 are open for students wishing to participate in the College’s sporting, music and extra curricular programs. Nominations will close at 11.59pm on Sunday 6 December.

Parents/Caregivers are encouraged to submit their nomination with their Child and have read the Sports & Music Handbooks prior to completing the nomination.

On Tuesday, we welcomed over 350 new students to Sacred Heart College for Orientation Day. We also welcomed 350 Year 10/2021 students to the Marcellin Campus who were primarily from the Champagnat Campus, with many of our new boarders also present on the day. A key element of the student transition process, Orientation Day allows students to familiarise themselves with the expectations of the year ahead. We look forward to welcoming our new Hearts families to the College next year and our students new to the Marcellin Campus and the Boarding House!

Tomorrow evening marks the final Year 12 Celebration for the Class of 2020, the Year 12 Graduation Ceremony. Held at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, we look forward to sharing this wonderful experience with our Hearts Community.

Rather than wish you well for the festive season I will hold off until the release of the SACE Results on Tuesday 15 December. The ‘SACE Results’ edition will be the final Hearts News for 2020 and will hopefully be filled with marvelous achievements from the Class of 2020.

With best wishes,

Steve Byrne
