To our Sacred Heart Community

Run for Hearts – The Sarcoma and Bone Cancer Research Foundation Association & The Childhood Cancer Association

It’s been a special week for our Hearts Community! #RunforHearts 💙💛

On Sunday, “Run for Charlotte” took place at the Main Oval with over 300 people in attendance to raise funds & awareness for The Sarcoma and Bone Cancer Research Foundation Association. Earlier this year, Charlotte Agostino (OS’ 20) tragically lost her battle with Osteosarcoma, a rare type of bone cancer most commonly found in people under 25. The wider Hearts Community gathered for an event which honoured & celebrated Charlotte’s life and the impact she had on so many. The day emulated Charlotte’s fun loving & kind-hearted spirit. Special thanks to James Dimech & his family for their outstanding efforts and the Agostino family for their unwavering support.

Our Year 11 Leaders organised the “2 Mile March” on Wednesday morning for their cohort as they walked from Marcellin Campus to Somerton Park Beach and back, raising funds & awareness for The Sarcoma and Bone Cancer Research Foundation Association. Students gathered in Walter Park afterwards for a BBQ & Live Music, a fantastic initiative from our Year 11 Leaders!

At Champagnat Campus, Montagne House organised a fundraiser for the Childhood Cancer Association yesterday in solidarity with fellow classmate, Max McKeough. Across Champagnat, students & staff donned the gold ribbons & laces which sold out by the end of day! At lunchtime, Max’s peers gathered on Champagnat Oval where they ran over 200kms collectively, a fantastic achievement by our young people!

Curriculum Extension Activities Nominations 2022

Sacred Heart College offers a broad Curriculum Extension Activities Program giving our students the opportunity to participate in a range of sports, music and clubs. Participation in these activities provides a great opportunity for students to be more connected to the College, whilst pursuing a passion or learning a new skill. It also provides teachers and parents/caregivers to form partnerships in the education of our students.

Nominations for sports, music & clubs are now open and must be completed Tuesday 30 November, any late nominations may not guarantee placement in a team. Online Nominations are to be submitted via the College website (https://www.shc.sa.edu.au/learning/co-curricular/) and students are encouraged to read the Sports Handbook & Music Handbook before making their nomination. Families received correspondence regarding Online Nominations on Monday afternoon.

Year 11 Geography Camp – Deep Creek CP and the Inman Valley

Our Year 11 Geography students recently ventured to Deep Creek CP and the Inman Valley for their fieldwork trip. The students were supported by staff in hiking to some of the more remote parts of Deep Creek CP and completing biodiversity surveys to compare to some of the more visited places in the park for their fieldwork report.

We were then very privileged to be able to camp on a private property in the Inman Valley. Students cooked their own meals, set up their campsites and learnt about low impact camping practices. Some even saw stars outside of the city for the first time! What a classroom!

Parents and Friends Annual General Meeting (AGM) (Wednesday 17 November)

This week, the nation breathed a collective sigh of relief when the WA Police located and rescued young Cleo Smith in Carnarvon. Such a good outcome!

It’s in moments like this that we, as parents and carers, empathise completely with Cleo’s family. Our children’s safety is paramount. Please be assured that students’ safety is a major priority and at the forefront of many aspects of Sacred Heart – from policies and procedures, to staff being present at road crossings and so on.

Should you have a concern in regard to safety please be sure to contact the College.

Wishing you well!
