Year 9 Rite Journey Camp (Week 1)

Year 9 students embarked on Camps this week in the beautiful Deep Creek Conservation Park, forming an important element of the Rite Journey, ‘The Abyss’. Year 9s are tasked with planning and preparing their own meals, navigation, teamwork and leadership, all whilst facing the challenge of walking up to 25km over the three days through rugged terrain.

Another important element of the Rite Journey camp is the solo, in which students take time to reflect on their year and the life lessons they have learnt which they will take into adulthood. Camps continue into Week 2 with 6 more classes embarking on this experience. We wish them all the best and hope that this week campers enjoy a well earned rest over the weekend.

Marist Day

On Friday 24 September, our Hearts students & staff celebrated Marist Day at Marcellin Campus. The concept of Marist Day was initiated at the inaugural Leadership Formation Day in Term 1, where student leaders from across Year 7 – 12 gathered for a day of team building and planning. The vision of the leaders was to develop a day celebrating student voice and agency, build House spirit, and establish relationships between campuses.

College Parents & Friends Association

Due to COVID-19 and uncertainty around parents’ events on school grounds, the Parents & Friends Year 12 Farewell Drinks scheduled for Friday 22 October has been cancelled.

The Sacred Heart College P&F will be holding their annual AGM on Wednesday 17 November at the St Paul’s Food & Technology Centre at Marcellin Campus. Parents/Caregivers from both campuses are warmly invited to attend as it’s a great opportunity to meet other families and become involved in the College. Further information will be emailed out to families closer to the date.

Marcellin Hearts Ensembles Music Concert

Last night I attended the Marcellin Hearts Ensembles Music Concert. Each of the seven ensembles presented three items. Their performances ranged from our Drumline; Guitar, Studio, Morning and Metal  Bands along with the Concert Choir and Senior Vocal. A vast array of talent and the final opportunity for our Year 12 musicians to showcase their hard work before their families, tutors and teachers.

A special vote of thanks to the tutors and teachers, especially Mrs Robyn Brookes as our Director of Music and her team and our Arts Leaders for 2021 – Gaila Morrison and Harvey Otto.

During 2021, there have been many highlights across the College. A special mention to our Senior Drumline for winning gold in the Open Percussion Ensemble section at ADOBA’s South Australian Band and Orchestra Festival beating our long term, fierce but friendly, rivals Cabra! Well done!

Our Class of 2021 has but 4 more days of formal classes! We met with them on Monday to emphasise the importance of finishing well. At Sacred Heart there is no ‘muck up’ per se as the year has not concluded. There are examinations and final assessments. In fact, the learning and school work continues over the next month or so.

Mrs Bennett (Deputy Principal) refers to ‘…your last impression is your lasting impression!’ We look forward to an appropriate celebration of the conclusion of classes by way of the Graduation Mass on Wednesday evening and Graduation Assembly on Thursday afternoon where we will acknowledge the fine achievements of many of the Class of 2021, including students who have made very significant contributions to the Hearts Community by way of their generous service.

Enjoy the opening rounds of the so-called ‘Summer Sports Season’!
